Gaborik curve

Hey guys,

I used to use an Easton Synergy with the Gaborik curve until I broke it several weeks ago.

I know the Gaborik curve has been discontinued and was wondering if anyone knew what curve (any brand) was the closest to the Gaborik.

Check out the Warrior Draper and/or CCM Thornton.

Luckily I bought 15 Gaborik sticks on Ebay for a great price last year after they were discontinued....only broke 2 so far...im set for life with my Gabby curve

None really, no brands make a huge toe hook like that at retail anymore. You could try searching for some pro stock, but they're in really high demand and there's not a whole lot of supply.

The Warrior Draper is probably the closest though. Try that one.

I have both the Kovalchuk and Smyth Warrior sticks, Smyth is close but I have trouble getting the puck to elevate routinely with both sticks. I finally just gave up and went back to Iginla, chasing the Gaborik curve has cost me a lot of money. Thanks a lot Easton.

No idea. Since they got rid of Gaborik I have bought a Sherwood Coffey-too heavy, stick isn't live enough for me. Smyth Warrior Dolomite, stick doesn't seem that great balanced, stick isn't live enough for me. RBK Bergeron SickKick, better balance, again puck just doesn't come off that great. Nike XXXX Naslund, great balance, very lightweight, puck comes off great, puck flutters because I'm used to the Gaborik. Warrior Dolomite Spyne Kovalchuk, again, very light, puck comes off great, can't get the puck to go top shelf easily. With the Gaborik all I had to do was shoot hard and it would go top shelf when I wanted it to. With the Kovalchuk I have to roll my wrists making my shot very erratic, it's very frustrating. So after spending well over $500 in sticks I go back to my garage and dust off the yellow Easton Synergy Iginla. Performance is still great, no problem going top shelf, I just can't puckhandle as well. I'll take that over shooting the puck hard and watching it stick to the ice. Now I have a garage of Ebay sticks and I'll be buying an SE16 Iginla. Which means Easton should be bringing back the Gaborik curve anytime now.

Sorry, you're right. I always get the Smyth and Draper confused.

Kovalchuk pro stock is pretty much exactly what you're looking for. It's only about the most sought after specific pro stock curve though, so it's going to be hard to find.

The Gaborik is listed as a 9/16" mid curve with a nutral face, 5.5 lie and a rounded toe.

The Smyth is a deep mid/toe.

as you can see the gaborik is most similar to the smyth/kovalchuck and the draper is similar to the sakic

And I have 2 murdered out Gaborik ST's the orange 85 flex and the blue 100 flex. Painted them both flat black. I guess I was spoiled with the Stealth and SL's, ST is more for durability than an electric wrist shot I guess. I'm going to give the 85 flex another shot before I sell it.

That is of course when you overlook the fact that the Smyth is a toe curve...not to mention being a longer blade.

Trust me, I own a Smyth, it's a toe curve and it's much different than the mid curves I own (Thornton, Draper & Rafalski) especially when you take it out on the ice.

Only real difference between the Sakic and the Gaborik is the face angle. The Gabby's a bit deeper, but nothing earth shattering.

It was ok and yeah it took some time to get used to. It was great for stick handling and passing, but it hampered my shot so I ditched em for a Draper. I sold one off and kept the other as a back up.

This thread reminds what I have hated about buying sticks for the last 36 years

Seems to be an age old problem for people ... you would think with today's technolgy and manufacturing processes that there would be enough on the racks for everyone.

I bought 2 RBK pro-stock black composite blades,they have plain white text of RBK and that is all, they are the ones made in canada and now I cannot find them again. They had the IG-17 curve pattern which is an Iginla I guess though other Iginla patterns on the racks were NOT the same as the ones I got.

I broke one and have one left .... I would love to find those again somewhere but I have not been able too not even on ebay.

Did you shot flutter lot, or didn't raise off the ground or what?

i doubt it didnt raise off the ice

The lie was fine. The curve type and face angle just didn't work for me.

I had a hard time finding the blades sweet spot. Shots had plenty of kick but were always low and off the mark. Wristers were better but not what I was used to seeing. Accuracy was better, but again very little lift. Quick shots in close were the worst. I was never able to get them up quick enough.
