I do not want to blame the defensemen when there is literally no movement in front of them from the pk-forwards. This is a structural issue and therefore a coaching problem. The players just try to execute what the coaches ask them to do on the pk.Maybe Hynes shouldn’t put out his third pairing defense every PK. Besides both being terrible, Merrill and Bogosian have zero ability to retrieve loose pucks and thus, it’s difficult to get the puck out of the zone. It’s just reload and shoot for the PP. Combine that with not pressuring the puck at all and you have a recipe for a historically bad pK.
