Small 5 foot 11 / 170 lbs, late 2004 born goalie from Boisbriand, QB
Know nothing about him, is he any good? anyone thin he'll get drafted?

21-22 : 17-12-0 record - 3.50 gaa - .901 sv% - 1 SO
22-23 : 36-12-0 record - 2.40 gaa - .915 sv% - 5 SO

game #1 of the play-offs 38/39 (4-1 W)

this 18 year old is seriously putting impressive numbers this season.

12-3-0 record in the play-offs
1.95 gaa / .935 sv%

Had a 42 save SO to win the series and sent Halifax Mooseheads to the finals.

In his last 2 games : 68/68

faced 140 shots on goal in his last 4 games, allowed just 4 goals; 136/140 (.972)

His season is rolling out like shockingly similar to what Thomas Milic had last season. Undersized goalie that is never really talked about both with .912 save percentage seasons and both stepped up in a massive way for their teams on route to a run at the Memorial Cup. I wonder whether next season will continue that and Rousseau will get a crack at the net for Canada.

He got the same problem then Nathan Darveau in Victoriaville, way to small.

They are REALLY good junior goalie but sadly, they won't play pro in NA

He's really f***ing good, but he's also 5'11. Rooting for him but teams usually steer clear of goalies that size.

well... Juuse Saros disagrees...
Juuse Saros‘s comprables right now are Dustin Wolf and Devon Levi - two guys that are very accomplished small goalies.

Rousseau doesn’t compare to any of those 3 at the sameage. Not even close.

He might get an AHL deal next year, maybe ECHL but my bet is he takes his CHL education package and goes and plays USports in Canada. This happens every year, a 21 year old goalie posts amazing numbers in the CHL, only to do nothing at higher levels.

I mean he is 18 posting amazing numbers not 21.

Yeah, Levi was playing Junior A at the same age. He was a stud there, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't say Rousseau was not even close to Levi at 18. Mathis also isn't eligible to sign an AHL/ECHL deal next year.

I think the poster is thinking of William Rousseau. Even then, William is currently in his 19 year old CHL season.

I don’t know why but I was thinking of Darveau - not Rousseau when coming into this thread, even though he is still only 20.

My apologies.

And FWIW, this Rousseau he was a 1st time eligible player last year, so he will re-enter the draft this year.

Well he didn't get drafted. is still 18. (2 more drafts to go)
- he was good last season, with good numbers. even better in the play-offs.

Has started this season great. 2 and 0 | 1.00 gaa | 66/68 (.970 sv%)

Should have been credited as the 1st star in his last game
3-2 W over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, but they decided to give it
to the home team player, who scored goal and assist.

Faced almost 40 shots, allowed 2 goals

6-0-0 record
1.33 gaa
.955 sv%
has faced about 30 shots on goal per game

at 5 foot 11, very skilled fast reaction, yet small goalie, Juuse Saros 2.0?

If he was Jusse Saros 2.0 he would have been drafted, like Saros was or Levi was. He is going to be a fantastic junior goalie, who might even play in the WJC.

He is not an NHL prospect at this point, he is a product of the team around him.

That's assuming every good goalie is drafted which is demonstrably false. If anything, goalies are the position where drafting is the most variable.

Maybe he succeeds, maybe he won't, but basing it off his draft status as a clear cut indicator is illogical.

Also, pretty sure he's too old for the WJC.

This is not even remotely true. He won several playoff games by himself last year, games Halifax had no business winning, and he's continuing that play into this year on a less talented roster.
He‘s a great goalie at the junior levelno doubt. he wont see that success carry over to higher leveles however, just like Zach Fucale. He won’t be an NHL level goalie. Feel free to bump this in 5 years when I am right.

Don't care to ever bump it. Probably shouldn't be so smug when you clearly don't even watch him.
And I’ll still be correct in 5 years, even you know it‘s a long shot he ever makes the NHL, let alone be Jusse Saros.

Saris dominated at the international level and back home in Finland in his drsft season, everyone knew just how small he was but he was so good he went top 100 anyway. Rousseau isn’t that.

Probably not but again, making categorically false statements to try to justify your argument isn't a good look.
