Been good in WJC so far, had 1 weak goal against Russia. Big body at 6'4 and cover alot of net.

Most ppl had him as 3rd goalie going in to the tournament.

Man the NYI really wanted to get all the starting goalies in the WJC

The Isles have been off the mark in evaluating goalie talent in recent drafts.

And just when the new influx of talent in net develops the Isles decide to pass. The cupboard was pretty dry.

So desperate times yield desperate measures.

Instead Demko in the second he goes with two Europeans with a lot less fanfare although graded pretty high.

Soderstrom in the 4th has the skill set but is very green. Hopefully he pans out. And Sorokin in the third were drafted in the same draft back to back. Pretty funny IMO.

I like both kids and hope they have a bright future.

Great tournament and reading about his condition just really made me respect him. Can't imagine it has been easy to succeed when you are a little different.

Really helps boost the Isles prospect pool.

4 blue-chip forwards. 3 NHL ready dmen and then Sorokin and Söderström in net.

He's been amazing this season. 22 games, 1.34 gaa, 94.3% svs%

And the saves he makes - unreal. Great positioning and super calm. Some "experts" has mentioned his name in the same sentence as the King. Goalies are hard to project, but I can easily say that his performance the first four post-season games has been completely outstanding. I don't know how many breakaways he has saved. Best goalie to play for HV71 since Stefan Liv - and he has the personality to go with it as well.
As a goalie fan he's been a real treat to watch this year, hopefully he won't crash and burn like the other swedish goalie prospects...

Linus, if you happen to google yourself some day and read this - thanks for all the amazing moments you've already given us supporters. And thanks for being open about your autism, you're a special one and a hero to many kids in the Jönköping region. And hey, "repetitive behavior" should be a really good trait as a goalie. =)

NYI is lucky to have him, along with Iyla Sorokin, in the system.

Didn't Linus just re-sign with his club?

Question for Isles fans.

How do Soderstrom vs. Sorokin discussions go?

Sorokin > Soderstrom, but no Isles fans really watch either (including myself).

And that debate simply comes down to their numbers. Sorokin has simply had better numbers over a larger sample size than Soderstrom. And I think most feel like that two years in the KHL is more difficult competition than one year in the Allsvenskan and one in the SHL.

I think Soderstrom plays a less erratic style than Sorokin, however. If I were to compare their styles to the two current NYI goalies, I would say Soderstrom = Griess, and Sorokin = Halak, but at the end of the day, nobody really knows how they will pan out and we don't waste much energy debating between the two.

I don't think there's much of a drop off from Sorokin to Soderstrom. Though, Sorokin has a better resume to this point. As an Islander fan, it's tough not to fall into the hopeful fantasy that we have another Price-Halak situation brewing in the near future.

Best swedish goalie that i've seen at the WJC level. He was flawless in the tournament in 2016. I remember wondering how he couldn't be better statistically speaking at league level and why Djurgården never really seemed to give him a fair shot.

It really isn't a surprise to me that he has been great this year and that he was able to beat Lundqvists old record. Even though im swedish, i practically watch no swedish hockey at all, so maybe i'm missing something here. But from what i saw at the WJC, in 2015 and especially in 2016, was a goaltender that looked technically very sound and didn't really seem to have any major flaws in his game. He also made some really big saves. And i loved the way he held himself, he looked so calm on the ice like he was in total control regardless of how the game looked. It surprises me that people haven't talked more about him especially after his WJC tournament. I think a lot of people might be sleeping on him because of his draft position. From what i've seen of him, he has got great potential.

Soderstrom has better numbers this year than Sorokin, and the SHL is definitely a harder league for goaltenders. Soderstrom is by far the best goalie in the SHL, while Sorokin is probably around 5-10 in the KHL.

They both have absurd statlines, but Linus' is a lot more impressive relative to his peers. He's first in the league in GAA and 2nd in SV%. Sorokin is 3rd in GAA and 15th in SV%.

To add some context to the level of KHL goalies, Viktor Fasth and Sorokin have identical stats right now.

..and a solid defensive squad in front of them. But I don't think that diminishes Sorokin's talent and potential. He's athletic in a really special way. All in all, Islanders' future between the pipes looks bright!

He's had a good season a terrific playoffs. Between him and Sorokin we may have a couple of blue chip goalie prospects. Would be nice to get himover to NA even if it's to play in the AHL. I believe he has an out clause in his contract.

Soderstrom is by far the best goalie in the SHL,

Mate, take off them fanboy glasses. He is not even the best goalie, he's within the top three, Alsenfelt is the best, söderström and Gustafsson share second place.

However, he has been really good recently, on fire after Christmas. He's entertaining to watch. Bright future for sure.
