G Joonas Korpisalo (2012, 62th, CBJ)

168 pounds? Really?

Sorry but that just screams "disaster"

For a 17 year old goalie, that's not really an issue. Realistically, it's going to be several years before he's even considered for NHL duty. In that time there will be plenty of time for adding muscle. Height is a much more telling physical stat with goalies.

Some nice quotes at the end, i would not have any problem to use a late pick for him.

I believe it's Aleksandr Barkov, not Petrov :) (in the remark about Korpisalo's teammates)

Might be worth adding that since Tuohimaa played all(or most) games in the A-juniors playoffs, Korpisalo lost his form somewhat due to the long layoff and clearly wasn't at this best at the U-18 WJC. Those who've watched him play more said (at Jatkoaika) he's better than what they saw in that tournament.

Were interesting to read, especially the words from his goalie coach.

But I have to say I wasn't impressed by him in WJC-18.

Thanks for this Jussi.

Everyone's talking about M. Subban and Oscar Dansk, but Korpi may end up being a pretty good tender.

A member of the Finnish goaltending factory, he's put up exceptional numbers. He's also 6'2 168, looks VERY athletic.

Here he is stopping Gaunce:

Of course, there are also vids of him getting smoked by Grigorenko and Kamaev.

All games in the shootout though.

There's already this thread on Korpisalo, I think it might suffice as a general talk thread about him.

Either way, I still love how Ennio Morricone's Man with a Harmonica was played before that penalty shot.

Where did the rumors start he would go to CHL?

Wouldn't mind if London picks him 9th
Not having a contract for next season might have been one of the first indicators that something was going on. After that he made a comment at the combine that CHL is likely (or certain) for next season.

Not at all. Tuohimaa is a 20-year-old who spent time in the SM-Liiga. If you look at the Junior A playoffs, most of the top teams played veteran "juniors" during the playoffs after they had either spent time with the SM-Liiga club or in Mestis.

A more telling factor may have been the long season - Korpisalo had not played more than 20 or so games in a season and played almost twice as many this past year.

His size and ideal frame make for a very promising long-term project.

Signed a two year extension with Jokerit so he's not going to the CHL.
Before these news i thought:
Jokerit Kilpeläinen-Hetenyi
K-Vantaa Tuohimaa
ASM Lankinen-Kaskisuo

Don't say that Lankinen is going back to bsm or asm backup....

Well it seems there was open spot for a goalie in the Jokerit juniors, I guess Korpisalo staying eliminated the need.

This is bad news for the WHL and it's fans. Was very looking forward to seeing him with Prince George this year. That franchise needs to catch a break eventually. Hell, they spent the 5th overall import pick on him.

Short summary:

"I got such a good offer from Jokerit that I could not turn down. I'm very pleased with this decision."

Said he's looking forward to training with men and working with goalie coach Markus Ketterer on the plans they've made for his development. Hopes to play against men and to challenge the other goalies.

Personal note, considering the Jokerit history with injuries over the past couple of season and #1 goalie Kilpeläinen's injury history, I wouldn't be surprised if he got to play games in either SM-liiga, Mestis or European Trophy.

I respect his choice and think it might be ok for him in the long run. Just bad news for the WHL.

Should be getting some games this season due to Hetenyi leaving to AHL, most likely competing for #2 goalie spot with Oilers Prospect Frans Tuohimaa.

He had also 8 saves (100% save percentage) during 26:22 minutes he got to play on the "pre-season" game against Mestis team Kiekko-Vantaa, Jokerit won it 3-0.
