Some folks have wanted the Avs to use a high pick on a goalie for a while now.

This achieves that. Him being 21 and in his last year of his deal in the KHL is also interesting. I'd guess they plan to bring him over next year.

Interesting pick, and it also adds a little more evidence in favor of my pet theory that the Avs don't trust themselves to evaluate goaltenders at the draft. Him being 21 means he's more developed and less risky, and the Avs have to do a lot less work with him in those really critical formative years. So a perfect storm for the Avs scouting/development staff.

Edit: And of course they blow this the f*** up by picking two more goalies in the 5th.

Undersized and mostly played in the MHL until this year. He's always had ELITE numbers basically every year though.

A young, healthier Frankie is worth a 2nd round pick any day.

Crazy effin' stats against men at his age, a .930 save percentage in a non-junior league is nuts (.942 in the playoffs). Even though Magnitogorsk is always one of the top clubs in the KHL, this is still damn impressive. He's not tall or has the goaler height that you want, but is absurdly athletic.
