I think the moment Futa leaves is the moment we're tanked, tbh. We've already been losing good men in guys like Hexy. He seems so dedicated and that article was fantastic.

Had to kill Cooper to write that too which is great :P

Who knows what will happen, but I think Dean will kick himself upstairs and Futa will become the Kings GM some day.

I really think it's maybe understated a bit too but good on DL for creating a path for Futa to want to stay, as well. I mean, giving the guy more responsibility as well as salary to go with his continuity is just great leadership, it has to be tough to retain people when you're doing so well and another team can offer THE leadership role and a salary to go with it.

One reason why it's not awful to trade some of these 1st round picks. Another is because, screw the future. Not many teams win 2 Cups in a short amount of time, and it's unlikely to happen even one more time, let alone again with an increasingly different cast of characters. So while most of them are around, keep going for it on a year to year basis until it's obvious that it's over.

It's one thing if you haven't won it and you're trading away a little bit more of the future all the time. The Kings have bought themselves the time to do another rebuilding effort though, even if it takes a while to do.

Bring on Sekera, bring on Lucic, bring on the next guy.

Ive said it all along, Futa and his mgmt style of our scouting staff along with his natural talent is what makes us as great a team as we are and will keep us a strong one for years to come. Some ultra smart hiring has gone on for awhile now starting with DL and everyone else in between. Futs is a special talent in his own right and a grat guy to boot. If anyone gets to go to camp and see him walk up and say hello, he is one of those guys who maes time and answers questions openly and honestly when asked.

“When I re-signed my new contract there was a window put in allowing me to advance as the contract wore out. I always requested, because that’s where I was born, to have a window for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Dean, when the Leafs called and asked for permission, allowed me to go meet with them..”

After the meeting he probably walked out thinking " this is one circus i don't want any part of"

Lombardi has two titles and Futa has seniority over Blake so there's no reason why Futa can't take over GM and DL is president of hockey ops.

Only reason I can think of is the current set up has led to two cups so don't **** with what works.

What causes the distrust in Blake for you?

Lack of true experience I suppose. I know Yzerman is a great example of a player who became a great GM, however i feel he paid he dues and was more proven when the Tampa Job became available.
Maybe by the time DL steps down Blake will have had enough experience to change my mind. But right now he just doesn't.

This, I don't have a really big problem with Blake the manager/businessman, but if he ends up our next GM over a more qualified candidate, it will start smelling like nepotism. I remember when a lot of us were worried about that with Luc so it's less about Blake (as polarizing as he can be) and more about doing what's right.

Even if Blake is never a GM, he is being groomed as a hockey mind to fill out The Roundtable of Wisdom

I'm okay with that. He's been around the game a long time, has great relationships within the organization and around the league, has an education, has hockey pedigree. There are worse things. I just don't want him to be AGM for like two years then suddenly be a big decision maker with no one over him.
