Friedman on 32 thoughts speculates that perhaps Zadorov going back to Van would be a good fit.

Canucks pov: They need a huge upgrade on the top 4 and Big Z aint it. I dont think he is better than Soucy which is saying alot because Soucy has sucked this year.

I think the Canucks are looking for bigger fish to fill that massive need of an upgrade in the TOP4.

Big Z's contract is also a big no thanks. He got paid for a great playoff run but he was meh in Vancouver during the regular season and was even a healthy scratch. There were also talks that Van was going to flip him by the TDL after acquiring him in December.

Are Bosotn fans already unhappy with Z?

Hes definitely not been good so far this year but it seems more of a conditioning issue and everyone else on the Bruins forgetting how to play hockey. He isn't a tone setter outside of big hits so other players have to drag the greatness out him. He moved across the continent over the summer and has a family so I'll give him a pass for now.

NHL "insiders" are more NHL speculators at this point. They can't get any inside information they've moved to just constant speculation to fill time.
Well yeah, they are hockey reporters talking about hockey stuff. When they aren't hearing something directly they talk about hockey just like anyone else would, which they make very clear when they say things like "weird idea." Nobody is being tricked here.

I can't imagine you just expect them to pop up on trade deadline day and only report things they hear and then just shut their mouths about anything hockey related for the rest of the year, right?

Lmao go check out insiders in other sports and report back to me.

When do these guys report anything before it actually happening?

Hell you just had some random twitter person break the Montgomery firing. That Martian Sens twitter dudes seems more in tuned with the Sens than any person that reports on that team.

He was horrible his first couple months with the Flames too. Healthy scratched several times under Sutter. He'll come around. He's not a guy to anchor a 2nd pairing and that contract isn't very good but he can still be a positive contributor.

Bruins have worse problems than Z that's for sure.

I'd only do it if there was retention. Even with 20% retained, would I do Soucy for Zadorov? I dunno...

Would Boston? Definitely not.

If Boston is looking to move him and the goal is to get rid of salary, they would get like 25m off the books over the next 6 years and they could flip Soucy for an asset at the next deadline. Additionally, very few teams in the league can afford to buy that contract, it's the reason the Canucks were able to get him for a 3rd last season.

It would also accelerate any asset gains by 4 years or so if the goal is to flip Soucy at the deadline and try and contend while Pastrnak and McAvoy are on their current contracts. Soucy's contract is much more moveable than Zadorov, both in term and caphit.

There IS an argument that it would be a good idea for Boston to do it, but I don't know that the management would sell on him yet, or if they're considering a quick retool.

Just get Ristolainen who is better, is on a team that will retain, and who's contract doesn't last as long.

I don’t have any issues with Zadorov. He’s taken too many penalties, but it’s nice to have someone on the back end that actually uses their size.

There was also reports that Zadorov felt insulted with Vancouver final offer to him during free agency. I know Z always said he wanted to stay in Van and probably thought the Canucks were willing to pay what Boston did ( they werent) so im not sure a reunion between Z and Canucks are a fit.

I'm sure the Nucks are salivating at the idea of getting their hands on a 3rd pairing d-man who's making 5M$ for the next 6 years, that is until he's 35.

I don't even dislike Zadorov but that contract is shocking for a guy who is generally unreliable on both ends of the ice. Gotta believe that the Bruins are stuck with it unless he turns his slow start into a career year somehow.

I don't really see it. Unless Boston were interested in offering retention, but the deal is probably too long for that to be feasible. Otherwise, it's a case of...if Vancouver were willing to pay Zadorov that much, surely they would've just done it themselves and kept him in the offseason.

I think the other aspect is...as well as Zadorov fit for the playoffs, i think the Canucks appear to be looking for a little bit more puck-moving ability in whatever they do to address the defence.

Boston made their bed when they gave Zadorov that awful contract. He's always been a guy who thrives as a #5, and struggles when expected to do more. His skill set makes people think he is better than he actually is. Vancouver knew that, and that's why they didn't offer him $30M like Boston did. It will be difficult for Boston to find a team to take Zadorov.

zadorov has a nmc. so unless milstein is cooking this up i am not sure what friedman is on about.

of course milstein is the prime suspect in cooking this up.
