Hronek is 27 and Pettersson is 28. Where are you getting 3-4 years older from. You could sign him to your proposed deal if it was 2020 maybe.
Hronek signed at age 25 or 26. MPetey is nearing age 29 so 3-4yrs age difference.

Hronek signed around 18months ago roughly?

It's weird because you know these upcoming deals are gonna look terrible, and with the massive cap hikes coming they still wont matter.
Better to lock up guys now opposed to signing UFA'S two summers from now when the cap will be a 108 million.

This deal makes the trade a lot better from a nucks perspective since Chytil, Marcus, Mancini and maybe even O'Connor plus dumping two bad contracts, really pushes the trade into a win for the nucks and a rare possible win for both teams.
From a pens perspective if they were gonna lose both players then they probably feel ok about their return as well.

I wouldn’t want to go over 5m or slightly over, maybe a 4-5yr deal.

Canucks have lhd prospects like D Petey, KK, Mynio that could be regular NHLers over the next 1-3 yrs also. Plus Marcus P is turning 29, 3-4yrs older than Hronek who got bit over 7m long term.

Maybe they tried deferred $ or trade protection or go 6 yrs to get aav slightly under 5m per?

Can't see why he wouldn't just go to UFA at that number.

Kind of feel with what happened with the Canucks being handcuffed in the Miller trade and then trading the NY first away for a UFA rental that $5.75 million for 6 years would be the kind of gift they've earned.

I actually feel bad for Vancouver right now because every hockey analyst is looking at their calendars for when Hughes becomes a UFA and trying to decie how much NJ will get him for at this rate.

Unless of course Vancouver retains him somehow through a potential short term retool
I have to disagree a bit. The nucks even without JT are still a very good team, this season has been full of everything going wrong and as of today we control our playoff fate and while Chytil hasn't had the success that JT has had keep in mind that JT arrived in Vancouver as a 45-55 point player who exploded once given a bigger role.
Chytil is in the exact same situation as JT was and while I'm not saying he becomes the prolific point guy JT was he very well may hit another level.

We also added a legit #3 that filled our biggest hole and we now have a ton of cap 7.5 with a massive cap explosion coming along with some very good prospects performing really well.

I think any talk of Quinn leaving because we traded JT and are now somehow a team that won't sniff the playoffs a massive overreaction.

Nevermind the fact Quinn comes across as a very loyal and we'll raised kid. I'm sure as long as he feels the team does everything in it's means to surround him with a winning roster he will gladly extend with the team that made him one of the youngest captains in history.

As for him going to the devil's I find that laughable that people think Quinn will end up there just because his brothers play there like that's the important thing a player considers when leaving a team that made you captain and a city he's literally come of age in and will do everything to keep him happy including giving him the bag.

Now I understand how oilers fans feel about him going to the leafs because he's from the area or AM bolting to the states.
