Problem is now we need 2 goalies
It is my understanding that when Woll and Scott were drafted that they were high end prospects? What happened? I know goalies can be voodoo, but is our scouting dept. that bad spotting goalies?

Who is the last home grown starting goalie the Leafs had?

Campbell gave us adequate Chris Osgood level goaltending in the Tampa series, so I don’t want criticize him too much or be too harsh to a heart and soul goalie performance, but the Leafs are not the 90s Detroit Red Wings.

If we scrounge up some money to spend we need a serious goalie to give the Big 4 a real Plan B game. We likely can’t count on the big guns out scoring our problems in elimination games. Our role players don’t have that killer instinct to lift them up. I like Ville Husso.
This post is extremely disrespectful to Chris Osgood

Great guy. Lovable character. Easy to root for.

But he didn't deliver the big stops in game 6 or 7 last year.
He didn't have a great regular season.
His health is an issue.

It's time to move on from Campbell. He's not the answer.

It shouldn't be lost on anyone that the way many people speak about Jack around here, is very reminiscent of the way most of us used to speak about James Reimer when Optimus was a Leaf.

yea, this team needs prime Hasek, not Osgood

I don't blame him for not accepting that deal. He has shown he can be a starting goalie and at 30 he needs to cash in now.

For Campbell's sake I hope he moves on to a team with an actual NHL goalie coach and a fanbase that isn't bipolar. He can be a good 1B somewhere and I'm sure he'll get a contract for around $4m.

For the Leafs' sake they need a more reliable #1. But I wouldn't be shocked if Toronto goes into the season with Mrazek as the #1 due to Dubas' ineptitude

he should probably go to a market where nobody cares about hockey. would probably be best for his emotional wellbeing.

The Leafs have improved this year, Matthews got better, Marner, well he didn't drop but he didn't improve much and Jt well he was staedy. What will get the leafs over the hump, I believe are 2 things. First they're defense needs to learn how to box out much better than they do. look at Tampa they box out great, Heck no leaf player was able to get close to Vasil. Yet Tampa players were all over Campbell when the puck was at the net, Hell the Leafs defense were on the ousside and the Lightening players were inside. Second, they need one or two big forwards that are not afraid to go hard to the front of the net and cause havic in front of the goaltender. The leafs play way too much perimeter play. This works good in the regular season but in the playoffs. Goaltenders want that puck coming to them from the outside primeter, thay can see the shot coming and will stop it 99 % of the time. Hell the leafs skated and passed around the perimter so much that they put themselves out scoring positions. They have to improve in those two areas if they want to take the next step.

Many of you will probably not like what I am goingto say. But here it goes. Part of the big problem with the Leafs is the media and fanbase. The Great one, Messier and other retired Stanley Cup winners have said it. The pressure to win is off the hook in Toronto. Wayne, before he was traded was asked which team he wanted to go to and his first choice was Detroit and his second L.A. that is very telling coming from him who was born and raised in the Toronto area. He didn't want to come to Toronto, Why, He mention the pressure from the media and fans is just off the hook. The Leafs have had many great players on the team over the past 40 years and haven't won. Why, it is like what is being said here on this board. A player plays great, then has a bad stretch and the fans and media crucify the player. Those of you critizing should put yourself in the players position. The Hockey market there is a very, very hard one to play in because of the desire and emotion to win, which is good, but that desire and emotion can make it practically impossible for a player to thrive. Because every little thing they do is noticed and crtiqued so severely and God forbid if a player messes up, he will be crucified by the media and fan base.
Nonsense. Players get paid handsomely to take the pressure that comes with being a professional hockey player and the expectations to perform that come with being so. Even the minimum wage NHL player makes 7.5 times or more the salary that your average worker bee makes per year.

They'll get no sympathy from me. Suck it up buttercups.

Did you watch this game 7, Forget last year that is history. Campbell made alot of great game saving saves in it. Hell, he made three in row short handed. Tampa could have had the game won right after the second period. Beleive it or not even Vasil gets lit up at times.

I think 4 x 3 or 4 x 4 is fair for Campbell, if he can get overpaid somewhere else, good for him, he had a great run with the Leafs and I'll have fond memories of what he brought to the team.

Don't really want to give him term but understand someone will gamble on him. Have to offer him more than what Mrazek was gifted.

I disagree. Hyman was not replaced. Bunting was adequate but no replacement. Hyman is in the 2nd round and we aren't. Because of the signing of the not so big 4, Dubas tied his hands. He cannot afford a decent supporting cast, let alone a top tier goalie.
yeah the oilers are in the second round cus of hyman...... smh

They've been piss poor at developing goalies.
One of the few they had was traded

Oh ffs stop with the media and fans bs. Noone is holding a gun to their head to play here or hockey at all.
Someone doesn't want the pressure - good for you. Play with heart and you're a hero in this city despite team results

- Toronto has scored 2 goals in the past 3 series finales combined. Not sure what goalie that's available that you can rely on to basically post shutouts in game 7s in order for the Leafs to have a fighting chance of winning.
- He was spectacular early on this year, looked shaky (he may have been hurt earlier than known and was playing injured) then looked good again once he returned. His numbers were also similar to Vasilevskiy - the #1 goalie in the world according to many - in the series.

I think it's fair to hope for or want more than Soup brought but that's no easy thing, and goalies can be notoriously up and down, or just hard to know what you've got. The Oiler fans were probably ready to ship Mike Smith to an island early in the L.A. series, until he delivered a gem in game 7. Some unknown keeper in Dallas faced a historic amount of rubber yet delivered a performance for the ages last night, albeit in a loss.

Short version: The grass is always greener?

Tampa has scored 6 goals in their last four series victories, goalie needs to shut the door more often than not.

Worst save percentage in the league since December was him showing he could be a starting goalie?
