Signing with Washington also gives him a few chances To have his giacomin moment at the garden in front of fans potentially. If he signed out of division with only one shot at msg that realistically might not happen

Fast in a leafs jersey ugh. Please no. Can't he go somewhere in the west

Fast should get his pay day. He took a nice deal for us on his last one and should get something for the work he puts in. Value up and down the lineup too, as he has shown he can play with more skill player, but it's not ideal for team.

He went through a lot too. That ankle injury early in his career put him in some serious trouble of making the NHL and he came back from it. Whoever pays him might be getting a rough deal at the end, but he's got value on the front end of the deal.

I don't think Hank is going there to be a "mentor", he's going there with the hopes of playing.

Even before Hank was tied to Washington, I had my doubts about them next season. New coach, older roster, condensed schedule. Lots of miles on that crew. A number of the teams surrounding them are on the rise with younger talent. We'll see.

It makes a lot of sense to me. The big critique on the Caps is that they didn't take it seriously this year. Enter the hyper competitive Henrik on a last quest for a Cup. It could light a fire under them for a push at one more Cup before starting to really rebuild. They also have a young goalie, so the backup is more likely to be in a 1B role than a traditional backup role. I'm not all that bothered by it. The Rangers almost certainly aren't in the contender realm yet (still have a lot of work to do on LHD and bottom 6). If they aren't going to be a legit contender for the Cup, I'd love to see Henrik lift it, sign a one day contract w/the Rangers, and retire properly. Granted if the two teams meet in the first round, all bets are off. :)

Fast deserves his pay day. Like Hagelin and Boyle before him. Those contracts weren't great and neither will his be. The key is finding the next Fast, not signing the existing one.
