If we are moving Tony to the left, we can just as easily sign a cheap RD as we can a cheap LD. The idea would be to balance the pairs better, though I can't say that ADA on the left side will do that. I'm not sure he will work well with Trouba.
But why play a guy on his off side if not needed and aren't LHD easier to find?

People mentioning Koivu for the lower lines. Would be good in the room and on the dot, on a 1 year. But I'm not a fan really. Not sure why he wouldn't try a contender if a deal is out there as well

I'm not advocating it, but our 3 best dmen are Trouba, Fox and ADA. Moving ADA to the left balances things better and allows them to get appropriate amounts of ice time at 5 on 5. Will it work? I have no idea, but we need someone who can play with Trouba. We can't sign someone to a significant contract unless we move one of ADA or Strome, and signing a cheap LD might not solve the problem, so they may experiment with moving ADA to the left side. If it doesn't work, then we'll have to try something else.

Or maybe ADA gets traded for a center and Strome gets traded for a LD. We'll see.

No Turris. No Wennberg. No Haula. These guys are not the answer. They only would end up taking minutes from our young guys and honestly, wouldn't be that much better. If they want a REAL 2C, it has to be by trade. No one available today makes sense. Stick to the plan.

I would love wennberg, martin on anything under 2m, and some sort of solid bottom 4 lhd.

martin is no flash at all but he is a consistent PIA to play against that will punish the other team and can take a regular shift and kills penalties. he is the kind of steadying influence that can help bridge younger players on the fourth line. I understand some of the reasons people dont love the idea of martin, but he fills a role here and he can take a shift, plus he wants to be in nyc area bc of family which might help get him cheaper ish. Wennberg IF he is coming here to play in a bottom two center role would be great, but just so long as IF strome leaves he isn't expected to slot on the second line.

Count me in the group that wants Gorton to go out and sign someone who can play RW and be versatile and someone who can play center in a pinch while playing wing also. I don't believe Gorton has given up on the possibility of trading Strome. If he does that and can't back-fill the center spot he will kick himself for not signing at least someone who can play that 'utility knife' role as it will leave Chytil and Howden as the 2C and 3C. Also this just shows that even WITH Strome, the team needs someone else who could fill in at center if/when an injury occurs. I think that's why they have been liked to a guy like Haula but Wennberg, Turris, Wallmark, Boyle all fill similar roles

I don't care about him signing in Washington, but I just don't think they are that big of a contender anymore and at best he's gonna be splitting time with Samsonov. If it's about his regular season stats then ok, but I don't think he's winning the cup there. Maybe he gets traded midseason.

theres very little i can get excited about in this crop of FA's.

strome is better than any other 2C option out there.

*/8

55/23

*/77

i see this as the single biggest need.

we must have a decent stay at home left defender. we got no one other than libor now.

K'andre ?? i say lets give this man child a shot at the 3LD

Too slow and cooked. I'd rather give Wennberg a shot. And Grabner.

Grabner is the guy. That's who I suggested a few days ago. He'd be a perfect addition to the 4th line and he'd spearhead the PK unit. Grabs heading in alone on one of his typical one or two shorthanded breakaways a game never got old.

Sure he didn't score on 99% of those breakaways and would invariably hit the post with a yawning net but they sure were exciting...lol. I for one could go for some more of those.

Let's do this JG...bring Grabs and his tattoos back to the 4th line and PK unit where he belongs....:nod:

Hank will not help Washington. Especially if he’s coming in once a week. Shitty move by him but if he wants to play close to home there aren’t many options avail. Surprised at even this one from the Caps side. Makes zero sense to me for them.
