Just as an aside, I think that "Roster Building" and "Free Agent Frenzy" are not the same. The former is for building the roster of the Rangers, the latter is free agent sign ins everywhere in the NHL. The two can certainly intersect, however.Continue.
Nieto would be a good one. Clifford to me is the guy I'd go after pretty hard depending on his contracr demands.
Also, Hinostrozza is a bit of a PIA from when I saw him play.
he'd fit what they're looking for in a plug but he's bad at actually playing hockey.interesting name for sure
If we're keeping ADA why are we moving him to the left side? Then we'll need a guy on the right side. Lundkvist isn't coming over this year so we need 3 RHD anyway. Pick up a cheap LHD, give Miller a shot at camp and keep Smith around as insurance. If there's going to be no big splash why make it difficult?
I don't think Vegas has enough of a current package for ADA and I don't think the Rangers really want futures at the moment. They're also ~never trading off their roster from their weakest position, which is center, so no Glass or Krebs, and as such, no deal.I still can’t see how Vegas can sign Pietrangelo right now. Unless they move Fleury or Martinez in the next couple of hours, Pietrangelo is open to offers from everyone else. Even if Vegas offers him a contract he likes in theory, he may not be content to watch his other options dry up while waiting for Vegas to shed salary.
Hopefully they don’t manage to do so and circle back to ADA.

Greene is ancient, but I think the Rangers have a lot of flexibility in that they seem to want Trouba as a matchup ES guy and his partner really only needs to play 15 mins a night worth of hooking and slashing the enemy. You can get away with a lot of guys in that role if you don't mind them having like 10 points at the end of the year.ehhh I don’t know as a bottom pair guy? I just am not sure what we’re looking for exactly. If we want a top LD or a 6/7 guy. Big difference. If it’s a 6/7 guy he’d be in the conversation.
I think an Andy Greene though could give you mins next to Trouba and you wouldn’t notice him. While regularly playing on the bottom pair. So we’ll see

Craig Smith, Vinnie Hinostroza and Cody Eakin would each be fine. Wennberg seems like the complete opposite type of player the team lacks and I don't see them reinforcing that identity.
Probably 1 UFA forward, 2 if they're cheap, and some plug like Luke Schenn or Bogosian until a TDA/something for a 2C/something can be reached, then call it a bonkers offseason.

Vinnie is pretty small though. Tampa fills out it's bottom lines with size and snarl and wins the Cup--Maroon, Paquette, Coleman, Goodrow for instance. St. Louis did the same the year before. It's also one of the reasons I like Martin--he's gotten kind of old though and I think he's got limited time left but he gets in on the forecheck--he gets his hits in and he's a very effective hitter. Over an 80 game schedule he'll come out of the season with 300+ hits easy and he hits hard.
Nieto's a pain in the ass to play agains toot and bigger than Hinostroza. Grabner's not a physical player really but a penalty killing forward extraordinaire---make any kind of mistake with him and it's off to the races.
To comment on Wennberg--he's available at a young age because he's a perimeter player.
Greene just gave the islanders really solid mins
you’re right though. I expect DeAngelo to float over there in game too. So you need a calming influence guy that can give you pk mins too. Nothing more
Islanders are very much a defensive oriented team. That structure being in place it's easy for a player like Greene to fit in
He did. Schenn & GoodrowI thought Martin had a few fights in the past playoffs?
I agree with the size argument, I'm just not sure this is the off-season we see the final product for the Rangers bottom-6 on display. I don't mind Martin, but his offense is so limited already that at 31, where does it go from here? He had 8 points in 55 games and he doesn't fight anymore (as he shouldn't because he has a plate in his face). If they are going to invest in this type of player I'd prefer Clifford.
Hinostrozza is the type of guy who is annoying to play against because he is like a gnat. Would he be long-term piece? Probably not. But as a 1-2 year stop-gap?
Barron and Gettinger probably need a year to develop but both will add some size down there hopefully.
Don’t take this the wrong way. We better start playing with more structure or doesn’t matter who we bring in. Jacques Martin isn’t here to play loose in our zone. Greene would fit well.
