IDK I think everyone is looking too far into free agency, getting rid of Staal and Hank, not resigning Fast or making trades.

This year we are a playoff contender (if there is a season) but not a SC contender. After the season we have more space and a full year to evaluate guys. Strome, ADA, Buch, Chytil, Gauthier, Barron, Kravtsov maybe, Laf, Kakko, Howden, Hajek, Miller, Tarmo maybe, Georgiev. Before making any huge decisions you can't take back, identify who you want here for the cup runs and who needs to be moved for better pieces. Maybe Miller has a Fox-like rookie season, maybe Chytil steps up by the end of the year and shows he's a capable 2C, etc. If Strome is on pace for a big season he can get moved at the deadline. Money opens up and then Gorton starts making big moves. No need to rush and do things for the sake of doing things.

So assuming we do the status quo and kick the DeAngelo/Strome cans down the road another year...

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Lafreniere-Chytil-Gauthier
Lemieux-Howden-Rooney

PDG scratch, Barron and Blackwell in Hartford

Smith-Trouba
Lindgren-Fox
Johnson-ADA

Bitteto scratch, Hajek and Miller in Hartford

In this alignment, I think Chytil gets left out of the powerplay, so It would be nice to see him incorporated onto the penalty kill unit.

I think they sign one good defensive forward because that 2nd and 3rd lines are gonna get hemmed in and crushed in the D zone. Woof.

Strome is in a weird spot. He’s going to be looking for a pay day for last season, and even his production since coming over from Edmonton. But I don’t think there’s a league wide interest in that - especially with the economic situation.

In hindsight, the Rangers probably should have moved both Fast and Strome at the deadline.

Fast - yeah, Strome - they will get another chance this season.

No doubt decision on Strome wasn’t easy but the main driver to qualifying him rather than finding a short-term UFA replacement was due to his “feasible” chemistry with Panarin rather than hoping the same will occur with his potential replacement.

That is the current lineup. True. I agree with our flurry of signings, entry level performance bonus overage issues and 4 ongoing arbitration cases that this looks like what we will see (whenever...). But I would not bet a nickle that we will see this lineup on opening day. Not even half a dime

I don't see how that makes a difference to Namestnikov. We could have traded someone else instead if we really thought he was worth keeping.
I read the post as 'why would the Rangers sign a player they recently traded'.
Also, it takes two teams to make a trade. Our other big salaries that we weren't relying on were Smith and Staal. Its amazing that we ever found a team interested in taking on Staal.

You think there will be a trade, or a signing?

Bullish on barron making team as 4th line pivot kicking howden over to wing, PDG a healthy and probably first man in

So the Rangers offered Fast 2/5 and he took 3 for 6. Reasonable.

I think the Rangers offer was closer to 2 years for $2.05m each year. Fast took 3 years for $2m each year.

So I'm actually wrong on my initial statement. The difference was closer to $1.9 million.

Rangers weren't keen on going to a third year, and though no one has said it, I do think there may have been a feeling that the team could look to flip Fast at some point --- or at least sooner than Carolina might consider such a move

Barron hasn't played center with any frequency for a long time, so I'd be surprised if he broke into the NHL immediately in that capacity.
