Personally speaking. If I had the choice between playing in raleigh or ny...I'd choose Raleigh. Not everyone loves the big city. I hate big cities...I love the quiet life. Everyone's different. Just because he played well here and has been a rangers for a long time doesn'tmean he loves being in ny. I love the rangers...but I don't like big cities.

I’d bet money most players that play for the Rangers live in Westchester or Fairfield County.

This is important to remember for the “who wouldn’t want to play in New York?” crowd.

From a life perspective, I absolutely agree. I’m a NYR fan since 92, I grew up in NY and playing for the Rangers would be a dream, obviously, but I currently live in Dallas and it’s FAR more my style. Moreover, I’ve lived in NC, Washington state, Wyoming and I would much prefer a less populace city. If you’re PK Subban or Ovie, or even Hank, the bright lights are probably enticing. If you’re a ‘regular joe’ like Fast, a place like NC is a gorgeous destination at a moderate luxurious salary.

Which one? I grew up in that range. Still, traffic, overall population density, it just isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. I love being in Montana, Colorado, Texas, Kentucky, the Carolinas. It just speaks to me. I worked in Westchester (Bedford Hills, real beautiful, wealthy town) for four years and my folks live in Huntington on the north shore. I’m used to beautiful NY suburbs, but being somewhere more subdued just works for me.

How much does it cost to live there? After escrow agent fees etc how much does fasth bring home? 700k? More? Not sure...whatever it is do you want to spend all of it on a house or save some...my house in Atlanta cost me 270k. This same house in ny...like anywhere in driving distance to the rink is probably 3 mil...more? I’d rather live here.

That’s certainly part of it. My dad’s house, bought in 1996, was 360k. He’s done some work and improved the property, but it appraised for 1.2M in 2018. My fiancé and I are looking at a comparable house in TX for about 350k.

Maybe gorton figures he’s got another guy (Barron, khodorenko, Richards, etc.) that can fill the role, cheaper, with more upside?

If that’s the case then no amount of money for fast would have made sense. Gotta wait and see here.

I’m sorry but I am not buying this. 3yr/6m is basically half of what an average cap slot is.

to make it round numbers let’s say 80m cap for 20 players. That’s 4m a player. Fast is literally making half that. Those are the contracts that you need to afford bigger raises. These are contributors that are on bargain contracts that don’t hurt you team. Those are gold in a salary cap era.

You would lose. Most live in Manhattan

I get what you’re saying but it’s not just that. Living expenses play a role but so do other things.

For starters, if you have a family, WC and FFLD county are terrific options. Safe. Suburby. Local to everything. Great schools too.

Look at the commute for us. NYI. NJD. Flyers. Pens. Caps. Sabre’s. Leafs. Habs. Canes. Even the panthers and lightning are easy travel.

I do agree that most younger players prob rent a spot in NYC, but the family guys. Longterm players? I’ll take that bet.

The average house in Vancouver costs 2 million...

I live in Raleigh.

it’s a great city but if I was a millionaire athlete I’m not choosing it over NYC. Period.

Fast was on the same line as a Hart candidate and was revered by his team mates. I do not but that he simply would rather be in a smaller city until I hear it from Fast himself. I’m not having it.
