maybe monahan set the market on dumping contractsHearing some noise.
Coincidentally seeing my source in a couple of hours so will ask him about it.
I bugged him early lol.maybe monahan set the market on dumping contracts
Byron would be great for our bottom 6. He's got some injury history, but he'll be playing 3rd line minutes at best. Would be nice to see another Ottawa guy come play here.I could see Zaitsev going to Montreal with a 2nd (maybe more) for Ottawa-boy Paul Byron.
Habs have like 15 NHL NHL forwards and only 4 NHL D.
I guess we'll see how he does playing on a team without anyone in the talent range of MacKinnon and Makar (Huberdeau and Rantanen are comparables). That Kadri deal is going to be very ugly in 3-4 years, but its fine for the Flames. They lost two stars, and Treliving has found adequate replacements to keep the Flames competitive and ice a roster that can still go deep in the playoffs.
For the next 2 seasons, the Flames should be able to go up with the best of the Pacific. Kadri will bring some agitation to the BoA that left with MTkachuk.
If the Monahan move to MTL is legit, I hope the cost to move Monahan is low, just to keep it easy for us to move Zaitsev lol. Hoping nothing more then their 2023 or 2024 first, which should be in the 20s.

I would have liked to add Burns or Klingberg to help the offence.Yeah, apparently we were interested in Burns too,
Seems odd that we're after offence from the D moreso than just a reliable top 4 presence, I think most of us assumed we would focus on strong defensive play..
Might have to be two trades. It might but I can't see them taking Zaitsev off our hands so idk how it helps us ..
Very unexpected signing for both Kadri and Calgary.Kadri choosing Calberia over the glamorous bright lights of NYC???? Nononono, that's not possible.
We don't need another older, small player and 4th liner. He is age 32, 5'9" and 158 Lbs.I could see Zaitsev going to Montreal with a 2nd (maybe more) for Ottawa-boy Paul Byron.

he is also on the last year of his contract. Hes not going to hurt on the 4th line and if taking him on greatly decreases the cost of dumping Zaitsev its worth itWe don't need another older, small player and 4th liner. He is age 32, 5'9" and 158 Lbs.

I’d rather pay 2 2nds than take Byron to save a 2ndHe's still a decent bottom 6 guy and most importantly his contract is over at the end of this year.
Money in vs. money out is about the same for this year but saving 4.5M next year by trading Zaitsev is the real prize, hence adding a 2nd or more.
Beats trading two 2nds or more to dump all of Zaitsev's contract, even though he only costs 2.5M for the rest of this year.

No offense but that's silly. Unless it gets in the way of getting another D there's no downside to taking Byron for a year.I’d rather pay 2 2nds than take Byron to save a 2nd
He went from legit shut down top 4 guy to kinda mediocre. What about Savard for Zaitsev straight up? Did Savard get old in Montreal or is it a Montreal thing?
