If/when the deal is made, I still feel we are more likely to miss than make the playoffs.

Sanderson - 0 NHL games
Stu - 132 NHL games
Batherson - 145 NHL games
Norris - 125 NHL games
Pinto - 17 NHL games
Formenton - 109 NHL games

These guys need experience, our top 3 centres and Sanderson especially. I think 2023/24 is most realistic to make the playoffs.
I think experience is a bigger factor come playoffs. In the reg season the biggest factors will be health and goaltending.

I’d argue that if we acquire Chychrun we have a better chance at winning the division then missing the playoffs.

Our team will arguably be one of the deepest most well balanced in the division.

Yeah absolutely.

DeBrincat in for Brown
Giroux in for Ennis
Chychrun in for Zaitsev
Sanderson in for MDZ/Mete
Pinto in for Tierney
Joseph in for Paul
Talbot in for Murray

Those swaps + the young players continuing to improve should easily make us a playoff team, if not an outright contender immediately.

Without Chychrun we are probably a decent bet to still make the post-season but swapping out Zaitsev for a legit top pairing D would make it almost a lock.

Only way I could see the team missing the playoffs at that point would be if both Talbot and Forsberg crapped the bed.

Hope you are right but I still think the lack of experience could hurt us down the stretch run. With Chychrun, no unforeseen absences of our top RW and decent health I put us around 35-40% to make the playoffs which are pretty decent odds IMO.

100% this.

Add the top teams in our division have not improved/ made questionable signings and trades.

Tampa has played a lot of hockey with little recovery

Toronto has two of the best players in the league but goaltending is questionable and could be back breaking

Florida’s defence took a massive hit, as did their forward depth.

I wouldn't consider the 7th OVR pick + 39th OVR pick + a future 3rd scraps.

In a major buyer's market where a couple good 2nd line forwards like Bjorkstrand and Brown go for 2nd round picks due to a lack of cap space league-wide, no one should still be under the illusion that we stole DeBrincat from Chicago.

It is more correct to assume that 1st is not going to be Bedard.

When it becomes hindsight and the Sens are drafting 9th-16th overall in 23 draft wouldn't you want to go back and make that trade? With Chychrun its likely the sens are drafting 13th-20th overall.
I suggest you use your power to see the future for more ambitious aims than predicting hypothetical trades.

I would protect my first round pick right after I win the Stanley Cup. You wouldn't after having a 7th overall pick. Obviously we are not the same when it comes to risk management.

The 7OA came in a very substandard draft. This was a steal. If we deal him next summer I’d wager we get a better return since he can sign an extension with the new team.

Would anyone entertain a Sanderson for Dobson trade if Lou took back Zaitsev and we added a 2nd.
Would need a sign and trade for dobson to know what I'm paying. But depending on the price, yes I'd do a trade along these lines.

I think Dobson is going to be a top 10 D man starting now.

It's possible we could get more trading DeBrincat next off-season, but a year closer to UFA makes me skeptical.

Either way it was a good gamble to make. I like the trade I just think it's silly to think what we gave up was way less than should have been expected given Fiala was traded days previously for similar value and actually came with an extension.

Admittedly I'm pretty bullish on our chances. I'm very high on both Pinto and Sanderson, so that plays into it but I also think even without Giroux and DeBrincat we were set for a big jump in the standings just based on how many things went against us last year. Basically everything that could go wrong did, that's not likely to happen again.

Dobson is awesome and a sure thing, it would be hard to say no to that, and I'm a huge fan of Sanderson.

Anything below 90 points is a disappointing season in my books. Playoffs are gravy.

Yeah, I think it's tough to make the playoffs in our division, I think it will come down to health and goaltending for us and the competition. I could see just about anybody in the east missing, though there are some teams were the odds are slim.

Pittsburgh, Washington and Boston all look somewhat vulnerable but I think we say that every year lol.

Anyone else think the hodl up on the Chychrun trade is not the ask from Arizona - but the return to Ottawa.

Starting to believe Boyd will be coming to Ottawa also.

Just responding to multiple posts.

Cap issues: Debrincat won’t be here next season at 9M. He either resigns at 8M or he is moved. Stu may get a 2 year bridge which will save money until cap goes up to about 90M. Stu would then be in line for a bigger long term deal, think 2 x 6M then 8 x 10M.

Chychrun: He isn’t coming without Zaitsev going so don’t worry about having both.

Greig: He will replace a top 9 player next year if not sooner. Obvious options are Formenton, Debrincat or possible even Pinto.

4th line: Next year the 4th line will not have a single player over 1M IMO.

Performance bonuses: After this year the only relatively significant PB is Sanderson who maxes out at 850K.

or Joseph
I'd guess we are not extending Debrincat. Going to need ELCs to step up & fill several slots.

Doubt we get a top 10 pick in '23 or '24 for DeBrincat.

I don't know if the Sens consider adding some players to PTOs for training camp but there are some UFAs that might be worth a PTO. Such as:

Brett Connolly, Antoine Rousel, Rocco Grimaldi, Zach Aston-Reese, Sonny Milano, Brett Ritchie, Sam Steel, Daniel Sprong, Remi Elie, Evgeni Svenchnikov, Michael Dal Colle, James Neal, Zac Rinaldo

Then a few former Sens/Sens affiliated players like Tyler Ennis, Alex Galchenyuk and Kole Sherwood

There are some players from that list that could potentially help Belleville out, a few others could be an extra forward type and a few others such as Milano, Sprong and Steel are youngish prospects with some skill.
