I really dont think its that much worse. Weegar is a legit top pairing D man and will be the best D man on that team. Huberdeau is a better player than Tkachuk or Gaudreau. If they can flip one of their D man for another player or cap space to sign Kadri they're a better team. I think whats happened with Huberdeau is really going to light a fire in him. Gaudreau also isnt a guy you win with as your go to guy, Phil Kessel 2.0. This could really be a good thing for them at the end of the day.

How well can Zadorov play RD btw, says he can play both. Thats the kinda D man the sens are missing if he can play the right side.
I don't disagree that Gaudreau probably isn't the type of guy you win Cups with as your number 1 guy... but Huberdeau likely isn't either. It's treading water, they aren't going anywhere. Loss of Tkachuk from last year is huge.

They'd have been better off to tear down and do a full rebuild.

Call me crazy but I like what Calgary's done. Huberdeau>Tkachuk and they still got some future value in the deal and a solid D man they'll likely sign. Their direction was already decided by what they had on the books imo. And it seems like this was the only way to get real value for Matthew was to acquire other pending FA's.

I don't buy it as a downgrade either. Tkachuk really disappointed me in the playoffs last year and looked like just another player. Something tells me the reputation exceeds the on ice product in some ways with him.

It was second pair really, and by getting a 2nd pair guy we pushed Brown out.

We needed to upgrade the D, we did it for pretty cheap (though given the circumstances in Vancouver we probably should have been able to do it for cheaper).

In reality, we needed to upgrade everyone on the right side not named Zub, I don't see why we'd complain when we take a step in the right direction. Right now he's our 2nd best RHD. If he gets pushed to the 3rd pair, that's fine as it means we have good depth.

Who is "our second best RHD"? Hamonic? If so, I agree Hamonic is our second best RHD after Zub.

However we should be aiming for something better at RHD in the top 4 D than Hamonic.

I gotta think Formenton and/or someone from the WJC is in a deal (Jarventie?)

probably have to wait if this materializes.

I watched the Finland-Latvia game yesterday and saw a few good plays by Jarventie; however, there were not enough of them to convince me that he will be an NHL player anytime soon.

If this means NYI has to trade Dobson for cap reasons, Dorion should be all over that. A better fit than Chychrun IMO.
They’re not trading dobson.

Yeah but was about a RHD in your bottom 4

Hiberdeau only had 5 points in 10 playoff games.

Fair point. They were both disappointments in the playoffs in that case. I still like Huberdeau now more than Matt, but that will likely change as they age. Matt has to prove last year wasn't an outlier, just like Johnny Hockey.
Sure. That's closer to the exception than it is the rule. Situations like that rarely spill over to the next season.
That I agree with, just pointing out that it has happened.

That would be unsurprising. The idea that some Arizona fans have that they can just wait is unrealistic. Neither the club nor player want this hanging over them going into a new season.
We keep hearing the ask is ridiculously high, so they may end up with it hanging over them...

I don't want to be trading the farm to get a guy that will likely be our third best D if/once Sanderson settles in and gets to his potential.

I think chychrun is getting underated for where he plays. Not sure how far Chabot is ahead of chychrun. Then again some might say chychrun is getting overrated because of where he plays.

affording him past his current contract could also be a challenge

It's always an option they could hold onto him. I don't think it's desirable for either side though. As training camp gets closer and closer there will be internal pressure to get a deal done. The price could very well come down from where it is now. It may or may not result in a deal.

Lou is such a moron. Dude is way past his prime and has been so for a decade now.
Just took an average Islanders team to back to back conference finals where they pushed Tampa more than any team in the league. Dont really think 'moron' is how id describe him.

I dont understand how this would be the circumstance in any scenario. Which includes signing Kadri.

He's really only had one good year and has never played a full season.

Perhaps Chabot is getting underrated because of where he plays...
Difference is I watch chabot 82 times a year. Where he plays isnt affecting my opinion lol. I think we will all be pleasently surprised with what we get in chychrun. Especially at that deal

Anderson is better than Weeger but their D is spectacular.

I like Weegar more personally but i can see how someone would like Anderson. I dont think Anderson plays with as much jam and isnt as versatile.

I can't believe anyone would give Kadri a 7 year deal at $7M per. He turns 32 just before the start of the season. There's no way he will be an effective player 3-4 years from now. His body has a LOT of hard miles on it.

I think he is underrated because of how much he plays as well. I get he likes the minutes but if he played less, he'd probably be able to give more on a more consistent basis.

Which is a scary thought, I think we overrate Chabot a little but he is an excellent dman who could likely be even more impactful if we didn't suck at moving the puck when he isn't on the ice.
