Personally, I'd take a shot at PK Subban if we run out of options. Low risk, low expense type of deal. He has a wealth of experience, plays RD and worst case scenario can fill in during an injury situation. He's only 33 years old. Maybe a 1 year deal playing back in Ontario. We traded for Phaneuf too and he played decent enough to help us get to the Conf finals.

There’s a reason the NHL Is the worst major professional league in the United States and Canada.
Don't really care tbh.

Look at the average salaries of the players in Australia football. Or in Japan's baseball league. Or basically any major sports league on the planet outside of the English Premier League and the cricket league in India. The NHL is a big deal and the players get paid handsomely. And the league generates an obscene amount of revenue.

Being the 4th best major league sport in North America happens to still be a really damn fine thing in reality. And we really don't need to be self conscious about it either.

The product the NHL is putting out is lacking when compared to the NBA/NFL. LeBron/Curry/Brady/Mahomes vs guys like McDavid and Mackinnon who have the personality of a wet rag.

Yawn 🥱. OK I guess.

I watch sports for what happens during the game, not what gets said afterwards. But that's me I guess. And I never realized that Tom Brady was so entertaining and such a magnetic character off of the field, or Steph Curry for that matter. But maybe I'm just a bit jaded or something...

Yeah it would be nice if hockey had some more colorful personalities. But again who friggin cares if your happy with watching the sport itself. We see the passion on the ice and that's all that matters.

I like that hockey is a bigger multinational sport than the other 3 major leagues. It's cool to see all of the different cultures blend in together and make a team identity. Key word being team there. Hockey is and always be a sport that promotes and puts the emphasis on being a team guy ahead of being an individual.

But when you follow a team closely and see the unique personalities from the locker room shine through in a natural way - like they're not selling their own personal brand in every interview, or playing a character on camera - its even more captivating as a fan of regular people.

Not all of us are looking for a larger than life celebritiy to cheer for in the sport we love. The sport is good enough entertainment on its own. And there's enough tryhards in the digital world of self promotion that we live in, so I'm okay with it not being a thing in the NHL....

Curry’s celebrations in games spread across to different leagues, Barcelona FC players even copied him and that team is more relevant than the entire NHL combined.

Also the NBA is more multinational than the NHL FYI. You have stars from Australia, Greece, Slovenia, Cameroon etc.

Really in hockey you’re watching the best player play for around 25 minutes then watching sloppy tight checking dump and chase heavy hockey. Football you’re watching the starting QB out for every possession and in bball your best player is playing 40 mins +

So I was right about Tom Brady and Curry not being colorful players off of the playing surface then? And so if McDavid was dabbing on opposing teams after scoring goals - and if the greater sports world noticed and talked about it on twitter a bunch - would you be a lot more happy? Be honest lol?

Americans make up by far a less percentage of the leagues players in the NHL than the other sports. Like its not even in the same stratosphere. Kopitar is from Slovenia. Rossi is from Austria. Hischier is from Switzerland. Stutzle is from Germany. Slafkovsky is a Slovak 1st OV pick. Dahlin is a Swede. Laine is a Fin. Lets not forget that 40% of the league is Canadian either....

Anyways to your last point - fair. Go be a fan of those sports. Hockey is a 4 line TEAM sport with on the fly changes. Always will be. There is no amount of colorful interviews or off ice shenanigans that will change your opinion on the game of hockey.

McDavid will never be able to dunk on teams for 40 mins a night. And a quarterback will always be the sexiest position in all of pro sports, no contest. So If your fixated on watching big dick alpha dog energy on full display - then pick a popular QB and cheer for whatever his current NFL team is for max results as a fanboy,,,

You want to watch football and basketball to get your fix in as a sports fan. And you are the type of person that needs pop culture to validate something as "cool" for you. The truth is that you just havent admitted it to yourself yet.

40+ different countries are represented in the NBA last time I checked. How many in the NHL?

10+ bazillion. Sources come after yours do. And can we also count the kids with 1 parent from another country like the NBA does?

Clearly you ignored the word percentage in the irrelevant point were talking about now, and you skimmed over everything that mattered in my post. But okay.

Keep denying your super fanboy inner desire to watch 2-3 hours of your favorite player doing "stuff" on camera... The NHL aint got shit on any league. Your probably right. But now you've made 4600+ posts on the internet about a sport than no one (that matters) cares about. Especially not the FC Barcelona fans who put my sport to shame. Imagine they cared about us too?? OMFG right?

Hope your okay with your poor life choices.. And its never to late to quit, just fyi.

According to who? Paris Hilton .

Just so we're clear - this is the moment that you died in my brain as a legitimate hockey fan (in regards to my last posts above and you being an insecure fanboy).

Look I love football but there's maybe like 15 minutes of actual gameplay in a game.

Honestly I think hockey probably has the best quality of game "entertainment" as it were but it has always had an uphill battle to build popularity. Mostly popular in winter climates, expensive to get into, and limited in where you can access a playing surface.

I think the culture surrounding a sport and the ease of entry probably counts for a lot. How else do you explain the popularity of soccer?

If by relevant he meant popular/known worldwide then yes Barcelona is more relevant than any NHL team and frankly it's not even a contest.

I’m starting to believe they are not planning on re-signing Zub.
I mean, Dorion telegraphed it when he signed the 2 year deal and said something to the effect of it coincides with when JBD and Thomson would be ready...

It all comes down to what kind of contract Zub is looking for, I love him as a partner for Chabot, but if he's asking for more than 4.5 I think it stops making sense.
