I didn’t look at percentage, because Clarke is a defender.
If you’re looking at Brady for shooting percentage, when he’s near the lead every year on shots on net, due to jamming away at a loose pucks.
ok sure.

I'm not judging Brady based on any "next gen stat". I think it'd pretty dumb to judge a player by that alone. Which was my point.

That's what you did with Brandt Clarke. "He's under 50th percentile for skating speed so we'd have no use for him."

Regardless, there's no point discussing since the proposed trade will almost certainly never happen. If you were to propose Tkachuk for Byfield + Brandt in the Kings forum all of their fans would laugh at you.

We have no need for a 22 year old right-shot defenseman who's put up 25 points in 53 games as a rookie in the NHL?

He's not playing for the Kings right because they're a very good, veteran team that thinks they can compete for the cup and he's young and still prone to making mistakes.

But he's a great young player who's likely going to be a 22-24 minute a night guy that scores ~60 points per season.

What do we have in the pipeline at RD, beyond Yakemchuk? Jensen will be 35 next year while Zub is turning 30 and is good to miss 20-25 games a year.
Brady is a premier power forward. Senators get worse immediately after that trade and in the future.

The proposed trade was Byfield + Clarke for Tkachuk, not Tkachuk for Clarke 1:1.

I doubt LA would make that trade, though.

I think they would make it, so long as they had reason to believe that Tkachuk would be happy going to LAK. NMCs now travel with players, even if they are traded before they activate. So a team has to know that Brady is all in with them before they give up that kind of package.

It seems strange, but Byfield and Tkachuk both almost have the exact same term remaining. Byfield has 4.5 years, Tkachuk has 3.5 years. The ceiling of Byfield is enormous, but Tkachuk is a tier above him right now. Byfield has size, but isn't a power forward. Tkachuk is smaller, but plays a much bigger game. It would be a huge upgrade for the Kings. Enormous. It would be a possible king making move that could put them in contention for the cup.

I also think it would be easier for them to make because Clarke isn't playing a big role for them now that Doughty is back. So they aren't really taking away from their immediate roster to make the move.

It's a possibly Yashin for Spezza+Chara trade, where 10 years down the line people might look at it and go why would the Kings do that - but if you look at it in their shoes today, I think it would be a very compelling move. Kopitar and Doughty both are nearing the end of their careers, a good chunk of their core is in that 28-35+ type range. To me, it makes sense for them to value pushing to win in the next 1-2 years a lot higher than the 5 years after that.
