Gets harder to trade someone like Norris with how he's playing and us being back in the hunt for a WC spot. Management isn't moving him unless someone makes a very good offer.
If we trade Norris for help somewhere else (D help), I shudder to think how much worse our depth scoring gets.

I don't know that we can dunk on that signing yet. He's barely played. It fits the assumption many had, but still tbd imo.

I think it's a bit early to write him off as done. Guy gets some extra rope before I'll be too critical given the circumstances.
A player I'd love to acquire but don't think we have the assets even to make an offer (nor is he available) would be Aliaksei Protas from Washington. 6ft6 winger who can protect the puck, doesn't panic, and can' finish. Him on one line and Tkachuk on another would be friggin amazing. Signed for 4 more years with a $3.3 millon aav.

For a second, I wondered what the hell I said to get myself in trouble with you, then I expanded the post and realized for once it wasn't me talking out of my ass, because I just embed a video of someone else doing it.
He is a point per game monster who signed a contract at what is looking to be half of his actual market value. If he waited a year, he would have gotten 6M+.
I can't see Washington ever trading him, at least not until Ovie is done and they start an actual rebuild. At that point, they could probably retain half on Protas and get a massive return relative to his value. Imagine shopping a 6M-8M type player who is signed for multiple years at 1.65M.

You're right, but I'd like to think that they knew that they were overpaying to bring in a veteran mentor. Similar to what Chicago did with Foligno and all those other vets that they brought in. I don't think they expected to get a 4M player. Staios was very candid about how badly this team needed veteran leaders, and how difficult they were to acquire in a trade.
His season on the ice has been awful, but like others have brought up it's difficult to judge his play knowing what is going on in his family life currently. It feels trivial discussing, but I'm not going to judge his on ice play at all given the situation.
People who say it was a bad signing from an on ice perspective would have probably been right anyways given his age and the likelihood of a decline, and that they may have overpaid him for off ice intangibles - but I think we can all look at how bad he has been and understand that he probably would not have been that bad.

He could barely skate last year and had zero foot speed. How a GM couldn't tell it wasn't going to get better is beyond me. This season has been a rough go for him, so I am not going to say he is complete dust. I understand having to overpay but over paying someone with no foot speed in today's NHL seems really dumb and the same can be said with this Amadio contract too many years to someone who can't keep up with today's speed

I think the idea is more to bring professionals in the room to avoid Bedard developing in a culture that will prioritize buying sneakers and getting yucky in the Byward Market instead of learning how to be a consummate professional.
I don't think the Blackhawks were dumb enough to not know that Foligno was done or close to it. He was basically paid to be a mentor. Obviously, it's easier to swallow with a team that is at where Chicago is at in their build, and the opportunity cost associated with burning 4M on a babysitter is pretty low. I get people being upset that we spent 4Mx2Y on a player who was effectively done or on his way there.

Top 6 or bust for him. Can’t skate, can’t defend, isn’t smart. He can rip the puck, that’s about the only skill he has in the NHL.
