Nemec+Mercer+Draft Picks would probably be the package. They aren't moving Jack Hughes and by extension Luke, and then everybody else has NTCs or NMCs. That package wouldn't be compliant at the deadline unless someone gets hurt in New Jersey and they can pull the Vegas special with LTIR until the playoffs.

I still think the Rangers have a much better case to grab Brady. They have some legit prospects in Othman and Perrault. They are in a position where they welcome a re-tool and are willing to move everybody. They also have multiple key pieces in different positions on their roster who don't have trade protection or have limited trade protection.

They can just tell Palat to waive for Ottawa or they’ll have to buy him out.

They might swing but that team is kind of old. Zib, Kreider, Trochek, Panarin… feel like they need a retool around some of those guys. And their defence is underwhelming. Idk if Brady solves their problems.

Intangibles are perceived as off the chart. I don’t know the last time a player like this was ever traded

I don't think they would trade Hughes for Tkachuk. That messes way too much with their team. I think the idea they would have would be to try and add Tkachuk without taking anything away. Mercer is expendable for them. In an offseason trade, if they decide to keep Kovacevic, they could probably send Ottawa Siegenthaler.

Something like Siegenthaler, Mercer, and Nemec for Tkachuk. Then picks+prospects, and we also get Chris Tierney.

I am not saying that is an exciting package, and while I think Tkachuk could be the exception to the rule like his brother was and get a huge return even when the team is dealing him from a position of relative weakness, I think there is a limit. We're talking about a legitimate top prospect in Nemec, and then two NHL players with term as a base for a player who in this scenario needs to be dealt by July 1st.

Ottawa isn't taking that Palat contract. We don't have the cap flexibility to do it. It's a bad contract. The only way Palat is included is if it is a bigger trade with Norris going as well, and the idea is that Palat is a proxy for retaining on Norris.

Yeah I agree. I’m moreso just generally reflecting on which team he’d best fit, not so much who would actually target him. I do think NYR will try.

I see us retooling for a couple years, but you might be right. I can’t imagine they would be thrilled to lose playoff revenue with an already frustrated fanbase. I think they’d be in denial to think that they can fix this in one off season though.

Any Tkachuk trade talk is contingent on the idea that they may have to trade him before July 1st to avoid a situation where he asks out later but has a NMC to limit the market.

Except for that Agent Zub guy, he wants to throw Tkachuk off a balcony, metaphorically.
