I have mused about trading him. But reality is probably won’t. Maybe shouldn’t.

But if you want to shake things up…. It’s him or batherson. I would trade batherson first. But

He is the best player who is better than him, he has led this team in scoring 4 of the last 5 yrs & seems to lead this team in almost every other category. If you want to shake things up trade Stutzle.

Sorry this year stutzle is like 10x the defensive player tkatchuk is. And he can actually help us possess the puck and create chances.

I don't know whether Justin Peters is a good goalie coach or not or who "we all thought he was", but I am pretty damn sure he isn't the reason for Ullmark's struggles.

For most of the season, on D, the issue has been the top pair. I think Sanderson is playing hurt, it's the most likely explanation for the rapid fall off in his game.

Up front, I think the trio of Pinto Greig and Giroux have been the most disappointing, I give Perron a pass for now given the context. Giroux is getting old so I understand that, I don't think Pinto or Greig lacking onsetship for their play though, I'm pretty sure they know they need to be better.

Well I'm pretty damn sure Peters hasn't done shit to help any of the goalies he's coached - Korpisalo and Ullmark in Ottawa, Soogaard in Bellville being 3 that jump to mind. And Staios said he expected "strong leadership" from Peters when he promoted him in January this year.

So is he the reason? Probably not. Is he helping? Not even a f***ing little!

I agree about Stutzle or Sanderson.

I disagree about Brady. If we miss the playoffs this season and they keep Brady after his NMC kicks in, they are insane.

I see Brady staying after his NMC as a catch-22:

• If he is unhappy, they HAVE to move him so that they can get back an impact player or the biggest possible package of assets to help fix the team. They can't keep him because once his NMC kicks in, they won't have the leverage to get an impact player back for him.
• If he is HAPPY, they have to move him, because why would you want to build around a player who has the leverage to leave (his NMC) but is HAPPY with staying in a bad situation?
• If he is unhappy but insists he wants to see it out, they still can't keep him because things change and there is no way to guarantee that 3-6 months down the line he doesn't reach a point where he's had enough.

Unless we get some magic going, he is absolutely gone either by the TDL or the offseason.

My Senspiracy is that they have a few deals in their back pocket and he will be traded a lot sooner than people think. Friedman hinted at some people being unhappy in the summer. It wouldn't surprise me if they said stick it out and if it doesn't work we will make a move. I think that Staios gauging the market on all the Senators assets last year was partly cover to see what was out there for Brady without rocking the boat, because they knew the NMC was coming up (just like me when I called it before anybody else and received lots of laugh emojis that I had to battle through).

If they trade Brady in early December, it's probably not going to fix the team...but it might. It's still early enough that if making a big move like that creates a spark, they might be able to save this season. People discount how important ticket sales are. It's not an EA video game (which ironically do have ticket sales now). The "You're not Melnyk" honeymoon lasted one season and fans learned that while Melnyk was the problem, him being gone wasn't going to instantly fix all those problems. There is pessimism in the marketplace and the only way to fix it is PLAYOFFs. If they wait until the TDL to make moves, the season is done. If they trade Brady or whoever is voted off the island in December, there is still time.

There is no way we should be doing that, trading Pinto because he's struggling for a dozen games coming off an injury would be a massive blunder

I think it's short term gain for long term pain, watching Pinto thrive elsewhere will come back to haunt us.

Maybe Pinto (or Greig) goes somewhere and thrives, and the player we acquire comes here and thrives, and it's a win-win. Like the Foligno for Methot trade was.

I'm not suggesting that we get rid of Pinto/Greig because they've struggled for 18 games, or that we trade them for a 32 year old with 1 year left on his contract to try and make some sort of playoff push.

That's why I brought up a hypothetical player like Braden Schneider. A 23 year old 6'4, 215 RD who could play in our top 4 for the next 5 years. Or if it's someone older, a guy like Pulock who's signed for 6 seasons.

If you consider the outlook in the short and long term, there are still holes on this roster and if you want to address some of them, I think Pinto and Greig are the most likely trade candidates, considering contracts, position, etc. You could maybe add Batherson, but we're weak at RW, especially in terms of scoring, so I would hang onto him.

If you want to bring in a good young player to fill a hole, you'll probably have to trade a good young player that you deem expendable.

Here's another hypothetical. Say a team looking for a young gritty C that has an excess of skill on the winsg offers you a 23 year old offensively titled forward, who'd be a better fit in our top 6 with either Norris or Stützle, for Greig.

Why wouldn't you make that trade?
