Villalta is pretty much of a run-of-the-mill third stringer. He can put up decent numbers in the AHL and maybe sub-in very briefly at the NHL level. Maybe. There's also Jaxson Stauber who is the same age as Villalta with a little more experience and a little better numbers. I'd think their values are pretty interchangeable. I'd take Merilainen over both personally.

With Ullmark locked up for the next five years, there is no real path for Sogaard. He could push for a job in Utah either this season or next.

Norris is about as near untradeable as anyone, ever. Chabot, might be able to find a team desperate enough at the deadline to take on his contract.

Reality is, Dorian f***ed this team for years with his piss-poor drafting, ridiculous trades, and the dipshittery that he called "cap management" with all these early long-term $8m/yr deals.

Looking more and more like another rebuild.

I'd like to keep Norris as well, but with all the injuries we've had this year to our depth, I'd be down to move Norris while he's healthy and let another team deal with the uncertainty around him being able to be a healthy 35g guy..

If the season ends poorly again, change is needed and he's one of the few with potentially positive trade value, hence why his name gets brought up.

Getting a better UFA than Norris is not realistic and they don't have the assets for a big trade unless it's a significant player with trade value or a combination of them.

Nobody has said that Tkachuk has to be the one moved in that scenario, but it's going to have to be guys that carry positive value, and it doesn't seem like that's Norris with the shoulder injury history. And with Grieg and Pinto having slow seasons, Norris has still been the 2nd best center, so the downgrade argument applies to him too, you're basically just subtracting from the roster unless you know you can land someone. They're in a tough spot. Don't want to move Tkachuk, I get it, but I don't think your scenario is going to move the needle and likely just makes the team worse, unless someone completely unexpected wants to dance with a team mired in misery. It's not like the core just needs to be shaken up and jolted to life if this goes south, they need different ingredients, high end ones.

Guys like Zub and Batherson with only 2 years left may end up the likely candidates.

I doubt Utah could get Tkachuk without putting Iginla on the table unless the Senators liked a different prospect ahead of him. I remember reading that the Senators liked Iginla at the draft.

I could end up wrong, and the market for Tkachuk could be flatter than expected - but a near 40 goal power forward in his prime signed for 3.5 more years at below what market value would be to get a comparable player in free agency is going to command a massive return. Especially since he currently has no trade protection active.

It would be different if he had one or two years left and was going to market. Whoever acquires him is getting four playoff runs out of him.

Another team would easily top that offer.

Someone is going to put up a very good player or prospect for Tkachuk if he is made available. Iginla would be what gets Utah in the conversation I think.

Players never go for full value, but I can't think of a comparable scenario if he is made available where a 25 year old power forward like Tkachuk would be available with so much term and no way to veto a trade. I also think that the Senators will either want a sure thing, like a legitimate top 5-10 talent type prospect, or a different star player who can help with a retool.

Not sure which top prospect/young player i would offer for 3 years of Tkachuk. Crouse admittedly a lot lower value than i gave him in my proposal.

More realistic to try and aquire Pinto.

1. Asking for a friend. Let’s say Norris plays 82 game (or close to 82 games) this year and ends up with 56 points (I used his current pace to determine this).

Does the risk of injury idea go away at that point? Did the other players that had these injuries and had the same surgery performed by the same surgeon later re-injure their shoulders?

2. Do Sens fans think Staois is likely to make a trade before the TDL this year?
