I'd feel better with another good RD on the roster or in the system. If there's another injury, I guess we are going to see more of Hamonic or JBD will step up. I'm not sure what side Chychrun will play on either. In the few games he played with us last year, they moved him around.
I don't get why we can't just role three pairs.
Sanderson - Zub
Chabot - JBD/Hammy
Chychrun - Branny...these two played well together when they did.

It just seems right. Have a first pair dman on the ice for the whole game.

It is what we got, Zub RD & Hamonic RD have NHL experience, Chychrun LD also has NHL experience & is considered a top 4 D who can play either side. JBD RD will likely start the season as the 7th D & will fill in when there is an injury, that's clearly depth. Depth players are not as good as starters, but can fill in temporarily & as they become better they eventually become starters. Kleven & Brannstrom can also play both sides & the guys in Belleville Larsson, Guennete, Thomson, Hetherington & Matinpalo are all depth defence who can fill in temporarily. I suppose we could argue all day whether they should be better players, but they are certainly depth players for this team at this time. The left side is the same.
The left side is stacked! Lol.

I know Chychrun has played LD throughout most of his career, but the theory when he was traded here was that he'd play RD. But, the few games he played for us, it was difficult to tell what the plan was as they moved him around. I'm presuming the plan is still to have him play RD.
I assume he starts at RD but will still move around depending on injuries & who gets hurt. If Chabot or Sanderson get hurt he could move back to the left side & JBD moves into the right side. If Zub or Hamonic get hurt JBD moves into the right side. If another D gets hurt they bring Kleven up or Thompson or Larsson or Guennete.

I think because that lineup just looks too soft, it make work well in the regular season, but it would need to toughen up for the playoffs which is why I would like to see Kleven in this lineup given his size & grit. If Hamonic is not on the ice the other two pairs are going to have a difficult time in their own end trying to clear the net or win board battles IMO.

I doubt we are close to getting Tank. I think we are likely 3rd on his list if canes and rangers are fully out.

Sign Tatar and call it a day.

This is why signing someone like pacieoretty should have been our number one priority.

Personally I believe Pierre has learned from last year. I believe this Tarasanko nonsense is just that. Smoke screen. After Chych he doesn’t want to show his hand. I believe that first round pick will yeild us the player he wants. Probably just waiting on the damn to break.

Many guys are still on the block. Karlsson, Dumba, Nylander, Scheiffle, list can go on and on.

Sucks everyone got a NTC trade options are going to be limited. I would love to make a Hail Mary play for Keller. Branny, Boucher, (Soogard/Merilainen) 24 1st, 25 1st, + Joseph

Keller is a young ppg winger on a good contract for a long time.

Sanderson is so smart I don't think that will be a problem. Chychrun is big enough and Branny can bring some speed moving the puck. Chabot and JBD...errrrr. Kleven will be a great add when he's ready, just wouldn't want to rush him. Maybe something could be added next year to help balance it out a bit, so to speak. I think it does need a bit more oomph. Or Chabot and Kleven could look good in the future. This is who we have...I like it and it's fun. I'm not sure if Chabot can be moved to the right side...

1. Chychrun is a LD, we assume that one of Chabot, Sanderson or Chychrun will play the right side along with Zub RD to fill out the top 4 with our best offensive defencemen.

2. You're right, if Zub does get hurt it will be weaker, but we have JBD who IMO is ready to take a big step on the right side & he will be the 7th D. We also have Thompson behind him & Kleven has played some on the right side in school. No matter who is behind Zub it stands to reason they won't be as good & will need the experience to get better.

3. It's hard to know who else would have been interested in MacEwen, but Ott had the need as Watson aged off the team & he was buddies with Giroux who supposedly helped one side or the other or both make the deal. I imagine given Mac is only 29 yrs old rather than have to find a new enforcer every yr, you sign one for a little longer at a cheap contract & call it a day.

I believe MacEwan just turned 27 on July 8th.

I hope they have MacEwen chat with Chris Neil. Seems, from the clips that people have shared, that he tries to stand in and go toe to toe. Neil was smart. He could tie up, move closer, get guys off balance. Make the other guy do what he wanted to. This might be a sleeper signing.

Neiler was a master tactician when it came to fighting. Tough as nails middleweight who could easily stand in with any heavyweight over his career.

Would be great to have him around to share his knowledge with any Sens player who wants it.

Doesn't Brannstrom usually play on the left side though (at least since leaving Sweden)?

You can’t really role three D pairings evenly, the ice time doesn’t work the way people think. You want your best guys playing together long term building chemistry and being able to shut down the top players in he league, not have one awesome guy saddled with a lesser guy to drag along.

It will likely be Chabby and Chych, then Sandy and Zub. Then we’ll see Branny and Hammy/JBD until Kleven is ready.

I liked the budding Kleven and JBD pairing and wouldn’t be surprised at all if they hit the ground running in camp.

1. Is Chychrun a RD or LD? It seemed like he was thought of as RD when the trade went down, or at least that was the hope.

2. If Zub gets hurt, I think the right side will be somewhat weak. That seems to have happened last year.

3. MacEwan probably found the 3-year term attractive. I'd wonder how many other teams were offering him 3 years.
I personally think Chabot on the right side of Chychrun is the best fit. Chabot’s strengths will play just fine on his offside and I doubt it impacts his weaknesses, he just moves so well.

Is Neil and Phillips not part of the organization? And redden? I thought they all were. If not, let's do it
They all are. I bet Neiler talks to the guys who fight, does little in ice drills about leverage and balance…. At least I hope so.

The thing with Neil is he could take serious blows to go along with using his leverage as the oft smaller fighter to his advantage. Pull guys off balance and strike.

Just as often though he had the chin to go toe to toe and chuck them and be the last man standing.

Crazy listening to him talk about the monsters he had to fight in lower leagues. I like having fearless guys like MacEwen on the team. He apparently has a motor, can play a little, and to hear him speak thinks he can chip in offensively here and there too.

Still… Having an endless wrecking ball of energy in the 4th line is pretty awesome to watch, it’s great for momentum swings, and the guys on the bench love it and get charged up. We’re not really going to be worried about Reeves and Lucic to be honest, neither guy fights much, and they are often too slow to make big hits either.

I’ve been freaking out all day that Toronto is going to trade for EK.

And then to make things worse they would include Murray in the trade and San Jose would not buy him out, robing is of that cap recapture.

Remember when Alffy signed in Detroit? It would be like that feeling times 10^10 for me.

I think we collectively need to start praying to the hockey gods that EK goes to Dallas or something.

Isn’t it pretty much down to Pittsburgh and Carolina?

Pittsburgh would suck too.

I don't know why the Canes would even bother trading multiple 1st round pieces for Karlsson when they can apparently get DeAngelo @ 2.5M for a year for basically nothing in assets.

Because one of those moves will get them the best chance at a Stanley Cup?

But at what cost?

I'm not trading multiple 1st round pieces to spend 8-9M on Karlsson if a 50P defenseman can be acquired for nothing and only cost 2.5M for a year.

As great as EK was last year, that just seems like the smarter move.

Even if the ship out Pesce and take no salary in return they still need to shed cap to acquire EK at 30% retention.

Not to mention it would reunite him with Burns. And that did not work in San Jose, mind you different team and stages of their careers.

They must really value EK similar to the way we used to.

That would mean they would be out of the Tank sweepstakes though… ;)

He played right before the sens, said he prefered right side early on here then walked it back. I bet he has more experience playing his off side than any of our d....don't quote me on this last bit though. Lol
