I think if the Senators wanted Pageau they'd have gone down that path with the DeBrincat trade.

They tried, I assume that was the place , ADC wouldn’t sign an extension with. As there was one place he turned down a deal.
it was the Wahlstrom, Pageau , 2026 first coming back.

Andrew Gross was the islanders reporter that broke the story about the NYI package, and his source indicated that NYI felt DBC would sign with them but the Sens didn't like the package (likely because of Pageau's salary).

But I also read that DBC wouldn’t extend there when asked,

Geez. That sucks as a package. Glad we got Kubalik in the deal, I guess

Most LW are probably in place. Interested in adding to our mix. I wonder what the cost of a Lafreniere would be. Unproven yet but potential.

Too much risk with what's riding on this season. I keep spit balling Chabot for Nylander (signed), but he's just too soft and asking for too much!

If we're still in on Tarasenko, waiting on the MM buyout makes sense for both parties

Should find out this week

I think the latest we'll know is next Monday since the Samsonov situation will be resolved by Friday the latest, and the Leafs get another 48 hr buyout window once Samsonov signs a contract.

That would really be putting the squeeze on Pinto but the numbers work

Yeah but Pinto has zero leverage. Yes he scored 20 in his rookie season but 5 were on the PP and he played with first liners all season. Still only got 35 pts

Give him 1.2 for one season and promise him a long-term extension is coming next year, or he could have the option to sign another bridge if he wants to bet on himself again

I would do Joseph for Pageau + 2nd.

Sens get a more serviceable player in pageau for 2m more in net cap. Get out of a shitty contract for a slightly bad contract

The 2nd would then be the other side... Pageau is a big upgrade on Joseph and only costs 2.0 more

And that doesn't allow the Isles to clear enough cap anyway

Best idea I've seen yet. I've also seen Pinto 2C Norris LW/C. Mentor like Giroux. Flip back and forth as they feel it.

Not having Norris as a Center is making your roster weaker. Move Pinto to the wing instead and let him develop his NHL defensive game. Norris is already top notch. As soon as his rookie season, he posted impressive results facing top competition in a top line role.

Also, absolutely need to have the Norris-Batherson duo together

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Greig - Stutzle - Giroux
Kubalik - Pageau - Pinto

So the cap hit works and fits under when you factor Sandy’s increase next year and Chychrun’s the year after.
My original point was that be adding Keller and Crouse for literally almost anything over the next 2 years is fine.
give them our entire draft the next 2 years for all I care.
That roster can be kept together for as long as we choose to keep it.
Tkachuk Stutzle Giroux
Keller Norris Batherson
Crouse Pinto Greig
Kastelic macewen

Chabot Chychrun
Sandy Zub
Kleven JBD

Korpisalo
Sogaard

I have no problem selling out whatever picks and prospects to have that team for the next 5+ years.

Our best trading chip was DeBrincat and we traded him for a possible late 1st and an UFA to be. Forget about getting Keller + Crouse. We'd have to trade our next 2 firsts and some of our (remaining) best prospects.

Oof. Idk about that. Pageau was getting 17 + minutes a night in NYI. He's not getting that here. Nostalgia wise, I get it. But if we have a relatively injury free year, we're in decent shape down the middle. That 5M price tag is a problem

Players ho get Selke attention have more value than those who don't. Pageau has 0.53 PPG and 56.8 FO% on the Isles. If he's overpaid, it's 500 K at most.

And we're than in decent shape down the middle, as long as we're healthy. Stutzle-Norris-Pinto-Kastelic is extremely strong. But the Wings are now weak after the big 3

Cap restrictions have changed what a negative asset means. For instance, if Pages was placed on waivers would he get claimed, my guess is that he wouldn’t.

He would, some teams would find a way to dump another contract

We're stupid IF, because Pageau + Wahlstrom + 1st is better than what we received, both now and in the future as the Isles first could become good in the near future, that team is aging

Edit : added the IF to avoid any possible confusion!

Rumours are ADC wouldn’t sign an extension there when asked, after PD negotiated those players. Not much you can do, if won’t sign the extension.
Not that Sens were stupid, couldn’t close deal.

Kane is injured or recovering from surgery, Tatar sucks and who the hell knows what Tarasenko wants to do.

Yet, he's exactly what we need and would be our 6th best forward right away. Since trading Nick Paul and Connor Brown we have been in dire need of 2-way forwards good at ES/EV

We don't need Kane and Tarasenko and spend more assets to fix our cap situation (Zaitsev and 75% of Murray contracts already cost 2nd + 3rd + 4th + 7th to dump)

1st vs 1st : ???
Pageau >> Kubalik
Wahlstrom >> Sebrango + 4th

If that package sucks, imagine the one we got. I'd need some explanations here

Defense has been a weakness for a while and now that we finally have a full top-4, people want to trade Chabot? We don't need more offensive forwards.... particularly one that will be very expensive.

I mean, we just went thought the DeBrincat saga... I thought it was clear that it was not the "right move" for the team?

My post was hypothetical, IF what Micklebot reported was true : "the Sens didn't like the package"

Hope that is the hold up.

From the sounds of it Tarasenko has decided to opt for a 1 year deal instead of a deal with term.

We should promise him the top RW spot beside Tkachuk and Stutzle as a way of pumping his numbers up.

The above deal is pure speculation. How about sticking to criticizing actual facts.

People in here sure do think a lot of players suck. Gonna be a shame when they are watching Parker Kelly and Zach MacEwen play a regular shift for their favourite team.

Sens have some of the worst depth in the league and yet this group of beggars are gonna be choosers when it comes to quality middle-six NHL depth.

You are leaving out the extra $2.5 million cap hit of Pageau and his extra 2 years with a M-NTC. Those are all negatives.

Well it wasn’t Sens didn’t like package, it was ADC wouldn’t extend there.

Would you rather have the 2,3,4 and 7th round pick Or Zaitsev and Murray, and 9 million in less cap space?
