Canes did good in that trade. Pacioretty has 1 year left and is a PPG player. Coghlan is a descent bottom pair RD. No assets lost.
I guess Drury will get a chance at C now that we signed Trocheck.

Top 3 centers will be Aho, Staal, and Kotkaniemi. Trocheck's fate was sealed when they signed Kotkaniemi to that 8 year extension.

It's a worse team than last year and an injury or two away from goodrow and or blais in the top 6.

I think they left the door open for othmann or Willy to make the team. Quite honestly they need one of them to make the team to establish anything resembling forward depth.

It’s better than the pre-trading deadline roster, IMO. They never had the cap space to replicate the post-deadline roster.

Maybe Othmann makes the top-9, which forces Blais to the fourth line and Reaves to the press box. That would be nice.

You could say this about 80% of the teams in the league….come on

I think it’s the philosophy. The whole “uRn It” thing. It’s just weird that they don’t view it the same way for defensemen. They just throw them in the fire.

Also the organization has committed to Kreider, Zib, Panarin. This means the kids have not gotten important minutes and power play (1) time.

Unfortunately, I think these kids need that to work out the kinks before they become what they’re supposed to become. Look at Jack Hughes, Mercer. They’re fed important minutes, PP1 time, and they’re personally responsible for the success of the team. There isn’t a bystander effect like there is here where the kids defer to the adults. That’s why the kids play well together. They’re not afraid of being chastised by the veteran group. I think things will change now that strome is gone.
I agree with everything, but the very last sentence. I'll believe that part when I see it.

More like 95% lol.

I will say that if Panarin doesn’t improve, we’re in trouble. We’re already looking at regression from Kreider (I’d expect a jump
In goal scoring from Zib and improvement from laf to off set this) but we can’t deal with this bullshit from Artemi again.

That's just it, yep.

The path to further improvement has to come from youth development.

It seems more and more like it's going to be a Patty Kane deadline addition after figuring out which young RW we can load off comfortably. Whoever is playing worse analytically, either Kravtsov or Kakko, will be traded for Kane. Expect it at this point. The chances of every young player breaking out and being an elite player at their respective position is still rather slim, and Kane is Kane. He's the guy that will get us over the hump in 2023

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko/Kravtsov
Panarin-Trocheck-Kane

dream top-6

They improved their PP today, that’s for sure.

There is next to zero chance Kakko gets moved for a quarter season and a run of Patrick Kane.

I could have bought it for a full year.

With Pacioretty + Coghlan going for futures I wonder what JTM trade value looks like. I mean he has a lower cap hit, but still.
