"They don't think they work as hard as the other top guys"

MacKinnon worked so hard that he got Makar by finishing last... without Makar, they don't win.

Who are the people saying this? Where did they play with these players? 4Nations? Early in their career? Last week?

Haven't we heard how hard the Leafs work also?

More context would be great, and which players said this would be awesome.

Meaningless as is, it will just drive the narrative home for people who don't like them, and for everyone else it is just a clip with a somewhat reliable insider of nameless players who have an opinion and not much else.

I personally believe that ridding themselves of Marner will make this team that much better.

I believe Nylander and Marner have a beef. This stemmed from when Marner forced himself to be Matthews winger when Nylander was there for the first 3 seasons.

Nylander telling teammates to stop being bitches and shoot the puck last playoffs was at Marner not Matthews. Cause Marner was bitching at Nylander. And if you remember, it was Marner slamming his gloves. Matthews and Nylander have a great relationship. Always talking each other up. Marner or Nylander have never done that to each other in the media.

I am telling you, get rid of Marner and this team with thrive. Hes the cancer.

They work, but the issue is that they're far too similar, and in the spring, it's a different animal in terms of demeanour and style of player that you need.

The biggest comparison is looking at Edmonton guys like Hyman, Kane, Nurse, and Perry, who bring a different element. We haven't properly replaced Hyman until this season with Knies, but help is needed even beyond that.

Yea I agree. And im sire Matthew’s and marner have a good off ice relationship as friends, but if you gave Matthew’s the truth serum, he would tell you exactly what we see in marner, an immature, entitled, perimeter player whose game does not thrive in the playoffs.

Delulu.

Honestly.

It's easy to pile on Marner, but the entire core has been pathetic at crunch time. Getting rid of one or two of them, doesn't all of a sudden change the way Matthews or Nylander are wired. It's fanciful thinking, and insane to suggest so.

I think that's way too harsh.

Even though I have wondered about the dynamic between the three of them in a sort of two is company, three is a crowd kind of way, but really, there's not a lot of evidence to support that they don't like each other away from the rink.

It comes down to they're far too similar as players and people, and management needed to do a better job in surrounding them with these kinds of players. They've needed a few more bastards like Perry in that team rather than good guys like Spezza or Thornton. They've needed more Hyman's and fewer Kerfoot's or Kase's.

These takes always make me laugh. How good do these bozos think our core is they can put up 100 points, contend for the Selke, score 60 goals, but don't work hard and float around.

Damn if they tried they would be what, Grestky?

That's pretty subjective when I've heard from multiple sources they work extremely hard. This Frank guy has a pretty obvious disdain towards the Toronto Maple Leafs based on all the interviews. I don't rate his opinions much!

I don’t believe that any athlete doesn’t want to win. They all do. They also work.

However, each time the game ramps up a notch, they fall a notch behind. That’s their DNA. We don’t have 1 guy that happens too, or 2 guys, we have all of them. The core.

pretty obvious that Mathews has the talent to be the best player in the league, but no desire to put in the effort to do so, if you can't see that go see a optometrist..............

And yet there are numerous reports about how hard Matthews works off the ice from team mates, former team mates, his coach end of year presser and his former coach
