Hello all,

I was reading an article on Saros and it got me thinking.

Is there a fanbase that have been luckier than the Preds as far as always having a steady reliable presence in net (Saros, Rinne, Vokoun). One can argue they always had a good defense or system in place but to tough to argue with a better batting average which probably covers 80% of their franchises existence.

For the worst luck, I may be biased against them but Ottawa is a strong contender no? Anderson was solid but a fringe top 10 guy. Lalime was average and their all time best is a short tenure of an old Hasek.

What are your choices?

Surprising choice for bad luck. Montreal has a long history of great goal goaltending (Price, Halak, Theodore, Roy, Dryden, Plante, Durnan, Worsley, Vezina). One could argue they had the best overall goaltending of the Original 6 teams.
Oh my goodness, I can’t believe Ive done that.

Yeah sorry , add Montreal to the good luck list

My apologies @Bouboumaster @CauZuki @amnesiac

Yeah that was my reaction too. Montreal’s a contender for best overall, they rarely go a significant period of time without a HOF’er in net.

These things can vary, vancouver was a goalie graveyard before luongo arrived
Yep. Leafs had a very steady run with Potvin, Cujo and Belfour, and then followed that up with a decade of dogshit until Frederik Andersen came along, and since his departure they're still trying to find another guy that can stick for a bit.

The post-Price era might be the first time were Montreal will spend over 5 years without top goaltending in their history.

Vezina 1910-1925
1925-1926 (1 year)
Hainsworth 1926-1933
Chabot 1933-1934
Cude 1935-1939
1939-1943 (4 years)
Durnan (1943-1950)
1950-1953 (3 years, McNeill wasn't bad, but not sure I'd say great)
Plante 1953-1963
Hodge/Worsley/Vachon 1963-1971
Dryden 1971-1973
1973-1974 (1 year)
Dryden 1974-1979
1979-1985 (5 years)
Roy 1985-1995
1995-1999 (4 years)
1999-2004 Theodore
2004-2007 (3 years)
2007-2021 Price
2021-ongoing (3+ years)

Previous biggest drought were WW2, Dryden retiring way early and Tremblay running Roy out of town. The current drought is also due to Price getting LTIRed.

Bruins have had a pretty dece run

Moog/Lemelin
Weird little run till Ranford then Dafoe.
Little meh gap (Raycroft, Lacher,etc)
Thomas, Rask, Ullmark/Swayman
Going back to Tiny Thompson and Frank Brimsek, then Cheevers, Johnston, Gilbert, Peeters, Moog, Lemelin, Dafoe, Thomas, Rask, Ullmark, Swayman

Plus they had Parent and Dryden in the system at some point.

They had low points like most of the 90s, but overall the franchise has been blessed with goaltending.

Bad luck, poor decisions, bad coaching, take your pick of reasons why the Flyers have had one (1) Hall of Fame goalie all-time. The death of Pelle Lindbergh, Ed Snider pitching a fit and forcing us to sign Bryzgalov before he turned back into a pumpkin, costing us Bobrovsky (and let's not forget that BOTH of the Panthers' goalies this year started their career as Flyers), Criminal Defendant #1, signing John Vanbiesbrouck when Curtis Joseph, in his prime, was so ready to join the team he had already bought his kids Flyers gear, the Fedotov Siberian Orchestra, the Kolosov debacle we're currently dealing with, the Year of 8 Goalies, the parade of Emerys and Elliotts and Esches, Söderströms, Sandströms, Roussels and Resches, Beauregards and Belhumeurs, Bouchers and Duchesnes, a guy named Heeter who never went on one, and a team that couldn't see Mark LaForest for the trees.

At least we had Niitty. AND Gritty.

Blackhawks

60s - Glenn Hall
70s - Tony Esposito
90s - Ed Belfour
10s - Corey Crawford

80s and 00s were not great but the Hawks had damn good goaltending in 4 of the past six decades

Philly definitely the #1 goalie graveyard.

I don't think some fans appreciate how much difference a good goalie coach can make for an organization. Rangers, Vancouver, Boston, all have excellent goalie coaches.

Flames before and after Kipper have had some rough stretches, Markstrom was decent I guess. Calgary hasn't drafted a good starter since Mike freaking Vernon. Godspeed Dustin Wolf. Edmonton after Roloson has been a tough crease. Ottawa and Detroit are both on some bad goaltending runs.
