GDT: Four Nations Tournament - USA vs Finland , 8pm ET , ESPN+

I wish they did play the games all on the big ice....not much good these days with bigger and faster guys and no room to make plays......even Fox/Lindgren would be good on the big ice with Fox maneuvers ....his wrister to the net might lack some punch....maybe one hoppers with some practice and Kreider deflecting .....double up his assists quickly .
The 90s game was great for the small ice. The interference, two line pass, no delayed offside, loose officiating all led to a much more physical game that thrived in tight quarters. Today’s game is about skill and speed. Larger rinks are perfect for that. I also have to start wondering whether we should redefine the offside rule to be more like soccer. It would eliminate behind the net play, but the lost time from having to skate back while everyone tags up would be lost. Much more actual action.

The big ice helps the skill guys no question . Owners are too greedy on them front row seats . Take them out . So many games are just pathetic to watch these days and 5 on 5 not much fun to watch . I doubt we ever see it happen until the NHL expands globally .

Go Finland.....time for Barkov to shine . Finns are always a pesky club it seems . I think it will be chippy and maybe the Tkachuk boys overdue it which could cost them .

All that would happen if they took out front row seats to use the big ice is that they would raise the price of all the other seats to compensate for it.

I'd be interested in a hybrid rink, 92 feet wide like some of the Finnish league. Would open things up without the game turning into lacrosse like it is in some of the wider rinks.

Didnt watch the entire game but caught parts of the 1st, 3rd and OT felt it was a good start to the tournament. Some exciting sequences and a good level of play.

I expect things to ratchet up in the 2nd and 3rd games for each country.

I'd be open to changing the rink dimensions in gradual ways because the players are so fast and big nowadays but there are definite drawbacks as you pointed out. It definitely would not help a slow team like our own.

The Saturday day games are legit rivalry games, so I’m curious to see how intense they get.

I think it was Lebrun who posted this, next season the NHL thinking about adding 30secs to the tv timeout and cutting the intermission down a minute. They're testing it during the 4 Nations.

Another healthy scratch for kakko, this time in the 4 nations. Rangers player development spanning different teams and countries to spoil things once again for our boy.

You know he'll blame the organization with the Finnish media.

Is Vaak playing?

Never thought of that. Will be great to see how he plays. More interested in how Kreider looks and if he's actually injured. If he is he shouldn't be playing.
Is kreider even in the lineup?

This will be glorified pond hockey. Kreider not opting out after laboring an injury the entire year is wild.

I would rather watch a golf tournament with 50 NHL players. Nobody wants this crap
Horrible take

So based on activity(300 posts in the last few days is pretty meh for this forum) So will stick with this thread for tonight’s game. If we approach over 1K posts will make a new thread for the next game.

**Please don’t make a new GDT, thanks!**

Who cares. Id rather him be resting for a playoff push. He’s looked like dog water the first half of the season.

I turned it off after the first 10 minutes as it was evident Sweden couldnt care less about being there. Apparently the pace picked up. Still don’t really care much. I would probably tune into a USA v Canada final, but other than that I simply don’t care.

Fire Gallant!

Oof kakko scratched and on his birthday too. It’s crazy how much NYR tank the reputation of these guys.

Yup. All the Rangers fault.
