Surprised at some of the Matthews takes. I thought he was amazing in the Finland game and easily the best player on the ice for USA. Pretty much every time he touched a puck near the USA blue line he cooked someone and gained the zone leading to a chance. I didn’t see most of the Canada game

Completely amped about the Olympics. Our roster is going to be even better. That Canadian D and G situation is going to be ugly for quite a while.

It will be interesting how USA approaches tomorrow’s game. They are locked into the finals, and if Somehow Finland or Canada only get 2 points. Sweden will come out playing hard if they are still alive. A regulation win would then put them into the finals against USA.

I expect Kreider in tomorrow to give Tkachuk a rest for the finals, since he was banged up last game.

This tournament isn't long enough to get locked into it and just root for whatever nation (mostly USA in here) completely uncritically.

People are still carrying with them things they don't like from the NHL. A lot of f***ing people don't like Auston Matthews.

I do it myself. Have I mentioned that Slavin and Faber are ass?

I agree with you. Thought Matthews looked pretty good and showing that he plays a solid 200' game. I think Eichel has looked even better and maybe this is overshadowing Matthews a bit but this is not a knock on Matthews.

Of course Beavis is the friggin front-runner to win the MVP. As much as I hate to say it, Guentzel is having himself a heck of a tournament so far.

Matthews made some incredible plays on the back check. He also has an incredible ability to get through the neutral zone with possession. He’s been awesome in this tournament.

Need a good showing from Kreider to pump that trade value.

When I’m actually rooting for a team I tend to watch a lot closer and I had no idea how nasty Matthews is in transition. He’s not a dynamic skater but his hands and puck protection are very crafty

As much as the drama of a US/Canada final would be, Canada losing to Finland would be equally cathartic. Absolutely nothing to do with the booing, which I think it would be worse if they DIDN'T. It's how smug the Canadian fans are in the WJC that makes me want them to lose every game.
The Chucks might be jerks but they are our jerks (for the yank folks)

So if the Canadians win in overtime, the US could conceiveably throw today's game against the Swedes if they'd prefer playing them in the finals

No pride in that. If Canada only gets 2 points and USA shows lack of effort and lose in regulation, they will be deservingly heavily criticized.

In fairness, this is nothing more than an exhibition game for them and these guys aren't getting paid. I could see them backing off a bit just to conserve themselves.

The only thing I see is Kreider replacing Tkachuk so he can rest and heal up for Thursday. I don’t expect them to be guns blazing but they should put some kinda effort.

Exhibition game? Players have gotten hurt in this tournament, and that last game didn’t feel like an exhibition game.

Yeah I think the spares will almost certainly play. Maybe no Hellebucyk this time too.

There will be roster management but whichever players are in for USA will be playing full motor. They’re having fun and want to run the table.

Yes, but there was something to be won in that last game. There isn't anything to 'win' in this game
