Back on January 14, the LA Kings honored one of their own, former Kings superstar right wing Jari Kurri. Already a superstar after winning five Stanley Cups with the Edmonton Oilers, Kurri reunited with The Great One, Wayne Gretzky, here in Los Angeles, with Kurri finishing off one-timers on so many 2-on-1 breaks with Gretzky.

Kurri and Kings teammate Dave Taylor talked about Kurri's time with the Kings. Both shared some rather interesting comments, along with one of those "you can laugh at it now" stories.

Thanks for the article and post. Amazing player, he was able to pot 50 even without #99 around. One thing though which is sorely absent in today's game as was mentioned above was his ability to one time it, was very very skilled at it and it was quick and hard.

Really do miss those days when scorers were a plenty, lot's of memories. Today's game is so predictable.

Kurri scored a goal in the first game I ever saw in person. This was in 1995.

Wayne setup him up on a 2-on-1 and he buried it. It was magic.

Kurri had a pretty memorable debut with the Kings in '91.

Sandstrom-Gretzky-Kurri was a fun line to watch, sadly Tomas Sandstrom could never stay healthy and Gretzky's back problems prevented them from playing together for long as well.

Another thing impressive about Kurri was how smooth his transition was to center. When Gretzky was out for half of 92-93, Kurri took Gretzky's spot as the #1 center on the team and that led to Luc Robitaille's most productive season.
