Decent big RW/C from the Q. His brother got picked in the 1st round, IIRC. We'll see if he's NHL material, needed to improve footspeed. I don't root against undrafted kids, let's see if he can make it.

They have worse contracts. I certainly don't mind this. I'm only curious about the timing and if it's significant.

Gaucher was with Reading 2 years ago as a UDFA out of college.
Played his way to the AHL, bottom six guy last year.
Working his way up the ladder, much improved this season.

Not a bad skater, good size, smart, willing to do the dirty work.
Upside is probably a 4C, but more likely ends up as an AHL plus player.

Maybe another team reached out to sign him, forcing the Flyers to sign him or let him go? Will we ever know? As you say, a guy who earns his ELC is OK, he's a big strong kid, might end up making it if his skating has improved. Anybody offer a recent scouting report?

They've been talking this guy up since training camp.

This is pretty much out of the Hayden Hodgson playbook. Big ECHLer who puts up OK numbers in limited AHL time and they think he's an NHLer.
It's a two way deal with vet minimum in the NHL, $85K in the AHL.

So if he has a good season they'll reward him with a call up for a couple games where he can earn an additional $20 as a reward.

Basically building Phantoms depth. I mean Barkey has to play with someone next season.
