Dave Isaac said there will be another round of cuts made after Sunday's game fwiw.

He said it in a tweet in response to a Leafs writer tweeting about how they have 73 players in camp right now.

Hakstol and Hextall must be monster tire pumpers for Lindblom to pencil him on the 1st line like that. :sarcasm: Flyers management is just one big circle jerk.

I know it's going to shuffle, but I can't help being excited about those lines -- the right top 9 players, Laughton in the middle over Lehtera, etc.

Watch the Flyers trade Friedman and he turns out the best of the bunch while Sanheim/Morin/Myers/Hagg underachieve. I shudder to think of the possibility.

I'm kind of intrigued by flanking Giroux with Lindblom and Konecny. He needs the young energetic legs to do the work for him, and that's probably the idea.

PK lines

Patrick - Simmonds
Provorov - Gudas

Coots - Lindblom
Morin - Hagg

Sounds like a miserable PP matchup for the opposing teams...

Giroux spends more energy 5v5 and scoring.

I think Weise may be a very good fit with Couts and Voracek, Weise is bigger and faster than Raffl and is more capable of the "Simmonds" wreck havoc in front of the net role. And let's face it, "dirty work" is not a strong point of Voracek, so having a winger to lead the forecheck on this line isn't a bad idea.

Weise's job is to retrieve the puck, get it to someone with skills, then head for the net to **** off the goalie and wrestle with a defenseman, creating a screen. His shooting skills can be limited to "tap ins" and he can still be highly effective on that line.

That already happened, and we heard all about it here last season. When they signed Gordon. The "ripple effect." Giroux having fresher legs, etc.

Giroux went from 1:28 SH min/g to 0:15 SH min/g.

Really energized him.

Filppula was a 1st choice PKer for a Tampa PK that ranked 13th. There's really no need for Giroux to do more than take a few key draws short handed.

I think the size thing between Weise and Raffl is negligible though...

1cm and ~5lbs between them. Raffl is 187cm and ~200-205lbs... Weise is 188cm and ~205-210lbs.

And Raffl is better on the boards. Though Weise does create more trouble near crease.

Amazing how quiet some people get when our prospect group is rated #1 everywhere and the general sentiment of the prospect watchers on this board is now being echoed by the national media.

Raffl has been breaking down, like Read already has.
I think both are best used in part-time duty.
They depend on energy to be effective.

Weise did play his only good hockey of the season after being healthy scratched for two whole weeks, so maybe this part time theory has merit.

I said before rotating the scratched guys in and out would be good especially on back to backs.

Nothing wrong with guys knowing they have to play well or get benched.

Of course this works better when the coach doesn't play favorites and benches the guys actually playing poorly.

Weise is noticeably faster imo

Raffl skated on the 1st line not too long ago. Raffl is a little faster skater then Weise is.

Actually looking at the 14 forwards that are expected to be on the roster I'd have to pick Weise as the slowest skating forward on the team.

As for the lineup for Sunday's game at NY Islanders.
I'm gonna try to guess who's gonna play.

Line 1 LW Lindblom C Laughton RW Laberge
Line 2 LW Bunnaman C Patrick RW Bardreau
Line 3 LW Rubtsov C Vorobyov RW Kosorenkov**
Line 4 LW Twarynski C Knight RW Vecchione

1st D-Pair LD Hagg RD Friedman
2nd D-Pair LD Morin RD Wilcox
3rd D-Pair LD De Haas* RD Lamarche*

Goalie's:
Starter: Hart
Backup: Irving*

Weise isn't that slow. I would say he's faster than Giroux.
