its insanely unlucky to build such a high quality roster, too top heavy in the major players and flawed in the team construction....but still should be competing in the playoffs every season where most of the key players are all just flops in the playoffs

Dubas haș had years to see this and just moved around the cheaper elements instead of really fixing why they aren't a competitive playoff team

even as a habs fan I wanted Toronto to win - thanks a lot Marner

Thought the refs did a great job, not an easy job but they try their best.
I think they were a bit biased, but not some malicious intent or conspiracy. I think it’s just a little more innate in your refereeing to not be so kind to players like Gudas and Bennett and Bunting etc. etc., and Florida probably has more of those guys.

I think the Tavares signing is when things really went off the rails. It made no sense in terms of the team's overall needs.
This x100. Tavares signing really shit the bed for Toronto. It wasnt about the player - it was his contract. When everyone and their grandmothers knew Tavares wanted to goto Toronto, how on earth didnt they get him signed for a lower amount? I fully understand Marner&Matthews wanting more money when they saw what Tavares got. Stupid, stupider, Lefas management

Revisionist history

Is it really revisionist history when this has been said throughout the years since Tavares got signed?
It was not obvious he was going to Toronto, and he left money on the table from SJ to sign in Toronto.

I didn't say you called me stupid. But it's still lame to insert the "anyone who disagrees with me.." disclaimer into a post.

The Leafs scored two goals, one was a seeing eye goal that bounced off a players leg. But yeah, fixate on a a hold of a stick that lasted less then half a second .

Here it is in real time. Good night kids.

Real reason for this ot goal was that acciari and rielly outplayed themself, and not come back defence. Playoffs is always fights, but you have to be ready come back defence.

The poster you responded to is definitely not a Leafs fan. He bashes the Leafs often, just because he thought the Leafs outplayed you doesn't make him a Leafs fan.
Fair enough, the Leafs do have an inordinate amount of people that love to hate them. But, my statement holds true for too many Leafs fans.
(with my regards to the rational ones among the Leaf Nation. That series could pretty easily have went the other way.)

Refs refs refs…..wha wha wha. Man, what a bunch of babies. If your star players showed up, if your “2nd best player in the world” nonsense scored more than 2 points and at least ONE goal, if Keefe wasn’t outcoached by Maurice, maybeeeee the series turned out different. But let me guess, it was the refs fault that they were all useless the whole series.

Y’all acting like you got that shiny new first round win toy, just to get it taken away from you immediately  Ohhhh, so sorry, too bad so sad. Now please, go enjoy that series loss to a WC2 team, that you should have decimated in 4 games, then in 5 games, then after the reverse sweep. What’s next, Leafs in 8?

Come and join you fellow jets-player on the golf course. It is so relaxing until you hit that mother fo....ng slice and everything goes sideways from hole 3..

Overall, the series was goalie difference. As I predicted before the start of the season, Leafs' goalie situation came to bite them.

The actual road to the finals would have been Tampa(in bad form), Panthers, and Hurricanes. One of the most fortunate roads to finals possible, yet Leafs blew it.

Credit to Panthers, though if I'm being honest, I think they got outplayed in just about every game overall. It mostly was just a matter of Bobrovsky completely outplaying the Leafs goalie game after game.
Based on salary cap hits, $10.0 million for Bobrovsky vs. $1.8 million for Samsonov and/or league minimum for Woll, then Brobrovsky outplaying Toronto's goaltenders should be the minimum expected.

When you spend 5X-6X more on your goaltender than the opposing team's goaltenders, then you need to have your goaltender significantly and noticeably outplay the opposing goaltenders.

Or else, why bother paying so much for your goaltender?

Toronto, on the other hand, spent much more on their forwards/defense compared to Florida, and therefore needed to have their forwards/defense significantly and noticeably outplay the opposing forwards/defense.

One team's strategy won out over the other team's strategy in this series.

Florida got more "bang for their buck" in how they decided to invest their salary cap dollars compared to Toronto.

I don't know why so many people are happy about this result.

Doesn't everybody realize that a Leafs loss isn't just bad for the Leafs and their fans? The Leafs losing in the playoffs is bad for the League. It's bad for the League's TV partners. The Leafs losing is not just bad for the Leafs, their fans, the League, and the League's TV partners. It's bad for the sport of hockey. It's bad for sports. All sports.

Today is not a day any sports fan should be celebrating.

No one gives a shit about the Leafs. Once you weed through all their condescending, immature, whining, crying, classless, woe is me little crybabies, maybeeeee you feel for the real fans….. :biglaugh:

Florida was better when it mattered to get things done, and I would have thought the Leafs would have taken a commanding lead during their home games, and they failed to do so.
I can't however help but feel somewhat frustrated over that stick-holding by Gudas at the end.
Might have still been a goal, but that was just ugly.
