David Savard would have made no difference. He has lost two steps and isn’t the guy he was last year. My lord, only in Hab land would a 5/6 get anointed into some pillar of defense. What they would have lost 8-2.

We are talking David Savard not Serge Savard, ffs.

How does one reason with these type of ridiculous takes? Noone's calling David, Serge. The fact that you wash out any context of this situation that our D finds itself in just further shows your silly bias.

The team is the youngest D in the league, we had one veteran on the ice last night patroling the blue line. Every Dman last night sans two I think, had to play on their wrong side, due to lack of depth at RHD position.

You may scoff at the idea of calling Savard a "pillar" of defense (which I totally get), but unfortunately for us, with his leadership, experience, and natural RD position, he is by default just that on this green young D. Sad isn't it?

Which just goes to further show you what the coaching staff is having to deal with.

All I’m saying is the Habs PK has been a strong point and Savard been a big contributor to the PK success - he was also the only one of the regular PK unit not playing vs Pens who went 2-for-3 on the PP - both of which were key goals for Pens
I get your point on the PK. I’m not sure he would have made much of a difference. The fragility and lack of compete is a problem.

I’m tired of hearing how incredibly valuable or indispensable this guy is. The push by some in the media and on here is ridiculous.

Hate to break it to you but Wifi and Guhle aren’t rookies any more. They are young but not rookies.

I’ll correct it for you, we had a garbage D squad on the ice last night. And inserting Savard doesn’t more that needle very much. Let’s not pretend this team didn’t get stomped by the Pens, Rangers, Kraken, Caps, Knights, Bruins with the mighty Savard in the lineup. His leadership, experience, and being a RD did squat on those nights.

They got stomped because they have a shit D core, they are brutal in their own end (fwds & D) and they are not getting superhuman goaltending.

He won’t fetch much for this guy at the TDL because he isn’t worth anything. Guys like Engels can hype this guy but he isn’t that good, Father Time has caught up to him.. The fact is they got shelled because this team is garbage with or without Savard in the lineup with the exception of a few players. That’s the reality.

Btw - a good coach can teach an under skilled squad how to play D, but MSL isn’t good coach.

This is exactly what I said, and they're shit because they're green, with no depth, and the fact that Savard was actually missed last night, just further shows how shit and young that they are. That was my point.

We agree for the most part.

IMO, the guy doesn’t move the needle one bit. The experience, leadership stuff means squat, they get stomped with him in or out of the lineup. They are a poorly constructed team that severely lacks talent at key positions.

OK so how is this a Marty problem?

I mean it's a problem for Marty, but it sure as hell ain't his fault.

Rebuilding teams are poorly constructed because they're under construction. And injuries and what not can throw wrenches into best laid out plans. I'm sure they'd love to be giving Reinbacher some looks right now if healthy. I'm sure they'd love a fully healthy Dach again, atleast the one he was before he got hurt. etc...

And I'm sure they'd love Savard back because he helps to stabilize the young D. No matter how bad it may be.

Well, for one this team is not ready to play most nights, they play like a chicken with their heads cutoff in their own end, they quit last night and mailed it in (not the first time this year), and they lack compete on most nights. All of those are on the coach. Many of these things were said of Dom and he got canned despite being more successful than MSL.

In addition, he doesn’t hold anyone accountable other than wifi and Pezz. Why is Dach getting top 6 time, 1st wave PP time, etc when he looks disinterested most nights and has played like dog dung. He screwed up the first line moving Dach up there and now Slaf looks lost. Name one guy who has been held accountable for there poor play, other than those two. No one sits for poor play, no one except Pezz and wifi!

When the team is getting scorched, Marty looks like he is more interested in his dinner reservations, lol. How many nights has he waited for 3/4/5 goals to go in before he calls a timeout?

If this team had a veteran coach they would still suck but they would at very least compete most nights. I’ll say it again, a good coach can teach an underskilled squad how to play defense. I’ve heard it so many times by guys like knuckles, momesso, Max, etc. We have seen it with other teams.

MSL inexperience shows, the whole lack of experience with the staff is a major problem. Just because the team is rebuilding doesn’t absolve MSL from how this team is not ready and how little it competes.

Frankly, Hugo deserves criticism for not addressing some of these issues. Why he went into this year with this D core without adding veteran help is on him.

Give me a break with this lack of compete narrative, it has to stop, it's just not true. The effort has absolutely been there for the last 5 weeks. To say otherwise is just silly. I'm not sure what you're watching. Last night they may have stopped as they were overwhelmed in the 3rd, I'll give you that. But other than that the effort is there, was even there for the 40 minutes leading into last nights disaster of a 3rd.

Don’t sugar coat it, some guys quit last night.

We have a very different idea of compete. This team is soft as warm butter and has the mental toughness of hot marshmallows. At least half the games including last 5 weeks the compete level has been poor. Last 5 weeks, Dach, Slaf, Newhook, Armia, Dvo just too name a few have been totally MIA, and there are more not mentioned. The difference between this year and last is like night and day. Last years team worked its tail off most nights, this years team we can’t say the same thing.

Once again, just like last year, and in this last stretch of games they have won a few solely because NS and CC are carrying this team on their backs, that’s all. For a small stretch they looked a little better playing weaker teams but that’s it, same team, same problems.

And tomorrow they will get smoked by the Jets.

So our shiney new backup will improve the team through osmosis from the bench and Montembault won't get blown out again
Improving at the margins is a simple concept that you don’t seem to understand even though I’ve attempted to explain it in a variety of ways. Have you really never heard of the term “low hanging fruit”?

The fact that Warm Hands Hughes cannot fix even the backup goalie situation portends not-so-good things to come this year and in following years.

It was the same with Bergevin. Always having an excuse in the chamber to insist other fans have lying eyes.

You havent explained anything, you whined about a backup and said we need to move Primeau and hand waved about how it's going to somehow have some magical effect on the team. The season is lost, give it a rest. Rushing out right now to move our backup in a market with limited options is a dumb move. It seems pretty damn obvious they are waiting for better options in the offseason to find a solution to our backup position.
