It may be the impatience of the fans and media that will be the death knell of this rebuild. I'm holding faith that HUGO have the fortitude and resolve to see it through.

God knows the Toronto market is already trying to plant seeds with their coverage.
What do you mean?

What do you mean?
Hockey media has mildly criticized Slafkovsky’s low effort performances and other bad things this season. So clearly the world is out to ruin Kent Hughes’ masterful rebuild, for which he is 100% not responsible for any aspect of it that doesn’t work out.

Game was 3-2 after two periods. Not good but at least OK, Then the 3rd period disaster, a complete breakdown of defense. Who is to blame? As per the box score, everybody. It was an all team disaster, not just one or two, everybody. Really bad but they need to write it off and hopefully learn from it. No use blowing up the ship from one 20 minute event.

Now, to add to present woes, that was the last home game and the schedule gets tougher with more road games and soon mostly tougher teams. What they have to do is not give up but rather keep that embarrassing loss in the back of their minds, learn hard from it, and realize that they all have to smarten up and work smarter and harder as a team on the ice.

Winnipeg will be tough, but lets see how they do against Buffalo and the back to back with Detroit. If they lose those, then maybe it is time to blow something up.

Yup its all noise. Team is still trending forward in the big picture. MSL is nowhere near the hotseat. They'll replace him if the team outgrows him but he's still the kind of guy they need with the young talent right now.
Trending forwards 1OA ? MSL is here because of his Status of HoF protecting him to some extent. Why is he the right guy ?

Do you think BUF failures come from fanbase impatience ?

How many years of top 5 picks do you need to become a playoff team ? Given Suzuki CC and Slaf contracts HuGo thinks they already have at least 3 of their top 6 players, one in his D+8 one in his D+6.

LOL seriously? You're comparing our situation to Buffalo's? We've gone through 3 years of the rebuild THREE! Buffalo has been going through it since the stone age. How about we wait until we have atleast more than 1 of our top 5 picks on the roster? Or even more than 2 of the plethora of draft picks we've made.

How many top 5 picks do we need? How the f*** do I know until we can atleast see them on the roster.

What a stupid question, no offense, but c'mon man.

"RationalExpectations" indeed.

It is beginning of year 4 of Kent Hughes era : they already had three drafts, three TDLs, three FAs and as many opportunities to improve the team.

This is not a classical rebuild a la SJS or CHI who went scortched earth. Habs have a 1C in his D+8 paid 8m, an elite sniper in his D+6 paid 8m, traded for two top 6 players in their D+6, have a 1OA in his D+3 already inked to an 8m deal. They have a cornerstone Dman in his D+5… either all those guys are not what Management thinks they are or there is a Coaching issue or both.

I don't even know how to respond to this, so I won't. We clearly have different views on the state of our situation. If this is not a classical rebuild then perhaps you should inform habs management, because they clearly didn't get that memo.

I'm thinking they're still trying to get out of the financial mess and crappy construction left behind by Bergevin myself. And only then and when the choices they've made through the draft are finally on the roster can the rebuild be judged or deemed anywhere close to completion.

But that's just me.

Ok then let me ask you this. When should we expect Suzuki Dach CC Newhook Laine to get results ? D+10, D+12 ? If you also wait 6 years for Demidov Reinbacher Slaf, that brings you to 2030.

Management made a bet : Focus on drafts 2019 and 2020, Build around Suzuki, which is something I can understand but they have to own it. You cannot have players in their D+5-D+8 and have the same expectations as for players in their D+1-D+3 that s all I am saying.

Look at the talent being amassed. look beyond the current roster. The quality is high, and we're going to see the value in our vets being 25 soon. The road back to the playoffs isn't far off from this season.
We are not seeing the Same Games… They don t have puck possession, can t défend, can t forecheck consistently…

As far as prospect goes, those are magic beans right now. No guarantee any of them amounts to anything. I like Reinbacher but losing a Full season to injury is quite bad, I like Demidov but no insurance he will be a massive point producer.

You mean the drafts of 2022 23 and 24 right? If not I can understand your frustration with the longevity or the lack of results, you've added 4 years to it. lol

Trading 22 and 23 picks to bring Dach Newhook from 19 draft class, preferred Barron a 20 draft classions another 22 pick, signed Guhle and CC to long term deal. They wished to accelerate that rebuild this way by focusing on those 19/20 ats they thought highly of. Hence their core is in their D+5-D+8

OK and everyone of those moves we're logically sound at the time they were made. Dach's injury (completely separate from the one in Chicago) could not be forseen and was trending quite well here before his injury. Barron was a big smooth skating RHD with upside and was a position of need. (they both were)

The newhook one is meh... But he brought an element of speed we were clearly lacking.

It wasn't about accelerating the rebuild it was about building a nucleus of like aged players to grow together as they went through it.

Fully agreed I think we are saying the same thing in a slightly different way. I am not saying those acquisitions were bad, just that you should have more expectations for D+5/D+6 players than for D+2/D+3 players you would have drafted instead of trading for them, don t you agree ?

Sure I can agree with that...

But I think with the way the roster is constructed and with the setbacks due to injuries to Dach and Reinbacher, and the loss of Monahan, and the D getting younger and more inexperienced, makes it very difficult to get a fair read as to where we really are (individually or as a whole) until more help arrives. The picture isn't complete.

This year is all about that, an attempt to get a clearer picture. If after the season managment feels they need to pivot from some of their initial hopes, I'm sure they will.
