Flea market retro find

Saw an old laptop bag in a flea market on the Swedish countryside. Had a look inside and there was an interesting item. An HP omnibook 800ct with windows 95 stickers. Felt in the bag and.. There was another one.

Price was around $12 so into the car with me it went. In the car I was to check if it the correct charger was included and low and behold.. What do I pull out if not a floppy drive, a cd drive and even a cd writer as well as an extra battery!

Booted the first one up tonight and it works quite well. The pull out mouse however.. I understand why it never caught on. Will need to scour second hand stores for a serial port mouse or an adapter to ps/2 or usb.

Thought I would just share this unique find. Should I make a short video and share with LGR? The Omnibook was a portable office powerhouse in its day.

Pretty cool find.
I like being able to see things like this with video games, especially ones that are still sealed. It's pretty insane how much some of these items can go for if they are in really good condition or sealed.

It will be interesting to go through what are on these drives! Will want to get a serial adapter so I can plug in a regular mouse foesr, ahahaha

Serial mice are harder to find than i hoped for. Will hit some charity shops tomorrow to look for adapters.

I have a few sealed SNES games. I almost bought a sealed copy of Chrono Trigger in the 90's (my favorite video game ever, I already had a copy) and so regret it because that is now worth over a grand USD easy.

If you're rich and old, you can collect for Neo Geo AES. If you're not either one of those things, don't bother looking up how much those games cost.

If you want retro games, Europe is the worst. Everyone sells at a premium. In Tokyo I saw WonderSwan Colour going for $15. A bit sad I didn't pick up a couple as they go for $100 here.

Stadium Events for the NES I believe if it is sealed goes for like $10K+

Earthbound was also really up there, like $2K+

I follow a Twitch channel of a guy who owns a video game shop in Seattle and he just streams when he is working that sells games from all generations and it's pretty cool to see the things that come in and get shown off and bought.

My PCMCIA CF reader does not read my 2gb card but reads all old cards well. Any idea? Is it too fast? Which are the biggest CF cards that might work?

It's probably the size. Card readers have a maximum size that they support. If you can find the specifications for the reader online (Device Manager in Windows, if you're using that, could help you find its name), you should be able to learn its maximum supported size.

Will check that out. These card readers are usually dirt cheap.
