Why else make such a trade if clearing cap isn’t the goal? You’ve pointed out, as have others, the Flames get the better players, no? Five mil to add to the club’s dollars to chase free agents. Must be the plan and hope to turn the club around quick with smart UFA signings.

Unfortunately there is little hope turning the Flyers around quickly. Fletcher and Hextall killed the organization. How the Flyers fare in the future will be based upon guys from the the last few drafts including the one coming up as they have a million picks. It will take time until those players are firm NHLers. I’ve always been of the mind that the Flyers need to trawl the bottom for a few years and pick up blue chip talent. Honestly a trade like this will help them in that regard.

Pelts was on waivers yes but that's because he had a horrible camp. He went and dominated the AHL for a couple months before getting a call up. He's been playing on the first line for a little while now and has not looked at all out of place
