Did Imoo even have a demonstrated level of success with multiple goaltenders, or is he just given credit for Campbell's pro career, which has arguably been a disappointment? The argument that Campbell would be a stud goalie with him is rather dubious. Campbell was an all-star goalie this year. Recently, his play has gone to shit. That doesn't seem like a goalie coach problem, it's seems like a psychological issue. Perhaps we need a psychiatrist rather than a new goalie coach.

Campbell credited Imoo for the psychological aspect as well. I'll try to find an article when I'm not on mobile.

Campbell was at rock bottom career wise when the Kings traded for him from Dallas. Imoo and Ranford rebuilt him mentally. It's not like he was an NHL all star before the trade. He was highly drafted by Dallas but had really fallen off

Imoo worked with Petersen as well.

Who cares about a whiny minority of the fan base? I care about my team winning cups.

Hockey isn't any more toxic than anywhere else
This is horrible logic. " why should we change for the better when others aren't?"

Having someone who is an antivaxxer, against LGBTQ, in support of the capitol riots etc is a horrible look while representing a professional organization that is at the forefront of progressiveness and inclusiveness and is owned my two telecommunications giants. One being Bell that has the Let's Talk program. All while being at the center of the hockey universe with the most media attention and scrutiny.

Agreed on the other fronts though. I would be for a new goalie coach. Preferably someone who has played in the NHL in the last 15 years like a Sean Burke, Luongo etc. Jose Theodore said the best goalie coach he ever had was Jeff Hackett who was his backup in his later years and then became his goalie coach who he took with him for multiple teams.

I mean, these movements treat minorities and LGBTQ+ people like they're lesser than people. Saying they're a "whiney minority" of the fanbase is kinda showing your colours.

Personally it's hard for me to support bad people. I guess for some they don't care as long as they see hitzzzzz

Do you like Gilmour?

I definitely think this is an area that at the very least could be explored in more detail at some point.

Like it or not, Freddy was the most talented goalie we've had since Eddy Belfour. His play continually regressed from year 1 to 5, but at the same time as his play regressed the expectations of Fred were inversely climbing. I think the expectations of a starting goalie in Toronto is something that is very very hard to manage mentally. I think Jack is fighting that a bit more now.

That said, Steve Briere needs to shoulder some of this blame for sure. And at this point you do absolutely have to wonder if his tutelage is effective. Or at least more effective than what is out there on the free market. We need best in class coaching top to bottom. That is one of the few advantages we have as an organization over other teams. There should be no team in the NHL with better facilities or training/coaching staffs. There is no salary cap on coaching staff. There should be no reason why we don't get the best available coaches. I am not sure Steve Briere is that guy at this point.

I think Freds demise could have been a mix of Briere and just the pressure. But if Briere is trying to change the style of these goalies, and the results don't come with that change, the pressure only gets worse. So understandably the player has a harder time.

I trust Kyle and Sheldon though. I am sure they'll address it if they think its a problem

Briere did coach in the USHL (Omaha) and has run his own private goalie company for 20 years; so I imagine he has coached someone important beyond Talbot.

I don't know much about him. I don't know how much he really contributes. I don't know if he is a problem or solution.

One would hope it is the latter, because I doubt Dubas especially has any kind of loyalty to him, and I imagine he would be gone if they feel like he is an issue.

Hannu Toivunen as well, although the goaltending on the Marlies is looking fairly good right now.

Whether or not Briere is a good coach or not, this statement reeks of complete bullshit. Imoo didn't "like some mean tweets"...

But it's nice to know winning is more important to you than a person being an asshole. And what a perfect year to drag this up again, after the Blackhawks scandal...
What did Imoo do? I actually don't really understand/know what he did

Dusty Imoo was once hired as a Marlies goaltender coach and has been replaced by Hannu Toivonen after having his offer retracted due to the tweets. Jon Elkin is still around I believe too.

Is a slump any more indicative of a goalie coaches success than the earlier period of great play?

What WILL matter is if he can help the Leafs goalies navigate their way back to playing at a stable and consistent level.

Regardless I don't think a goalie coach is someone who should be replaced mid season

If I was going to work in a very public place, I'd first totally delete every social media account first. People are too crazy nowadays and out for your blood, no mater what.

Not having social media is suspicious friend, this sounds like a sign of guilt that warrants extra investigation.

Sure. The GM and President should be fired first though.

The Leafs on pace for their best season ever mainly due to additions around the core causing them to be the best defensive team theyve been since at the very least 2007 while still a top-3 team offensively.... and your solution is to fire Glasses man. Typical lol

No, they are being carried by the offensive weapons that were in place before “glasses man” took the job. Most posters here believe that the D and certainly goaltending is the major issues with the group, that is 100% on Dubas.

Top-10 defensive team, and has gotten even better throughout the season despite arguably the best defenseman on the team falling apart due to regression and injury, and the goaltending letting in 5 brach balls a game recently, and it's Dubas' fault Mrazek and Campbell have exploded?

Guys like you always moving the goalposts. Just find a new team if you hate management. They're not going anywhere.

He said nothing wrong, it just didn't align with the popular political opinion.

The stud goalie has a great relationship with that coach. You make it happen and enjoy the success they'd bring

There's nothing wrong with supporting an insurrection that killed a cop in attempts to overturn a democratic election in the United States of America?

I think with his current track record our guy (Briere) should be replaced by someone who is credited with developing high level goalies in the past.

I know you cant poach other teams coaching staff/talent without it being a clear positional upgrade. Can we not hire an AHL coach who has done some great work developing young goaltenders to be our NHL guy?

Is there a site to research this and do the "leg work" per se to present some viable options? I'd be down to do a little research and present my findings.

It does make you wonder though, why was he let go after one year in Omaha? And if he's so great, why did he move down 1 league after his year in Omaha?

For the record I looked at every team he's coached, and before Toronto the only goalie anyone here has likely ever heard of was Talbot.

As for his private goalie school, I highly doubt any goalie with serious pro aspirations went to see him. The Winnipeg goaltending market was dominated by Rick St. Croix up until around 2005ish, and GDI (now Rink Goaltending Development) since. Every Manitoba born goalie that has sniffed the NHL recently has been trained by GDI, this includes James Reimer, Chris Driedger, and the Pickard brothers.

I respectfully disagree. I can offer another personal anecdote here as a former goalie.

One season I had a really dreadful goalie coach, and he was negatively affecting my game. I was very close to telling him to piss off and let me figure things out on my own. At the Christmas break I went home and spent a week working with my own goalie coach who fixed me both physically and mentally. I learned to tune out the team's coach and proceeded to play some of the best hockey of my life for the rest of the season.

If I were Campbell, I would be paying the guy who trains him back home in Michigan to come over to Toronto and do some work. Or even see what Imoo is up to these days, privately of course.
