Not sure I am interested in a 26-year old Marner for the purposes of a rebuild. Give me 18-year old, LD Noah Chadwick, 19-year old, C Fraser Minton, and a 1st for Doughty instead.
Sounds good to me if its 2004.. the cap man, the cap.. thats why Marner is always floated - same salary... and the good news to me is he is only signed through next season, so he has to earn his next deal. Edit: of course if there is a lot of retention by LAK then its possible.. or some 3 way arrangement so TO can clear cap

Here's another fun tidbit:

Brisson was Kovalchuk's agent. After the contract termination was reached he signed with Bergevin's Habs.

You seriously can't make this shit up. I swear, Blake's going to pull off his mask and we're going to find out that Brisson has been the gm all along.

The last day or so has really sucked as a Kings fan.

Lose to the Oilers again. Doesn't look like Blake/Luc are getting fired. And we find out PLD probably can't be bought out before he turns 26.

This sucks.

Brisson's son was also drafted by and is part of one of the most shady organizations in the Vegas Golden Knights. He's often within arm's reach of questionable ethical or dishonest situations.

Worth a read. Makes the Kings coaches look stupid.

"
When Edmonton comes up against Dallas or some other team that is more aggressive on the kill, the Oilers won’t so easily be able to run their favourite plays, continually getting the puck to McDavid on the move so he can dissect the opposition formation with brilliant passes.

How will Edmonton counter that? They’ve got likely the best combination of power play specialists in NHL history, players with great skill but also great offensive instincts and minds. They’ll figure something, but not likely so often as they did against the passive, passive, passive, passive, passive Kings."

Most of the year, they weren't so passive, going out to meet the guy with the puck and adding pressure. I can only think of one time they did it and they killed the penalty.

Their game plan was the exact same for the last 3 years: turtle and hope the Oilers make a mistake. Every year it didn't work, the Kings would double down. Brilliant.

Not sure why everyone is acting like the hockey world is the BIG BIG WIDE WORLD that everyone else lives in, it's not.

It's an extremely small network of people....

Oh so now DB will speak about a PLD buyout? How does he reconcile the fact that he called everyone and anyone who wanted this topic addressed during the season, a donkey as little as 2 days ago?

I got a name for him. Asshole.

If they can't buy him out then trade him to Boston he's the type of player they covet...unfortunately there isn't much they have that they would want to part with...Poitras...I'd take Carlo and a first rounder...The Dubois experiment was a shit-show really...he had no one that came close to having chemistry with him...he is a good player but you can't have good players put with a couple of plumbers even though Laferriere was coming on... so he was good with him when they played together but it takes a 3rd to make the line go fully

Not a ton of concrete information but it is noteworthy that the perception around the league is that Bergevin is the successor should Blake move on (whether stepping down or otherwise). That’s assuming the Kings don’t nuke the whole front office, of course.

The comparison of the length of Taylor’s and Lombardi’s respective tenures to Blake’s is asinine considering that it strips out all context of which GMs were brought in to do what, how they did or did not accomplish it, and what preceded their respective firings. If Uncle Phil is viewing this solely by length of GM tenure, we’re f***ed.

The last day is just another brick in the wall of the last ten years. The October anniversary of Voynov's arrest will mark exactly ten years since we started our descent into hell.

Lol. This f***ing team. So no change or BargainBin? Totally random unrelated question, who's the top player in QMJHL in this draft?
I should make clear that Friedman and Marek weren't saying what would happen; they were speculating on next steps, to an extent. The Bergevin thing is the perception around the league if Blake steps down or is let go (without broader change). A Friedman source was the one who highlighted that AEG is a "patient" ownership group, which is where Friedman and Marek (without any context, as I noted above) started talking about length of tenures under AEG.
