I don't post many threads, for several reasons, but Ifully expect this to be moved...

Nonetheless, I'm talking about the actual monetary undervaluing of our players that runs rampant around here and leads to hopes/trade proposals that simply WILL NOT happen.

I've been mentioning, for three months, that Zuccarello, for example, will be getting, on-average, $4M per-season for four (4) seasons. Let me first sat that I do not expect anybody to take my word--I don't usually expect anything. However, this information came directly from an EXTREMELY reliable source (most of you know his name, which I'd feel very irresponsible saying)... yet I still see people valuing him as low as 2.8M/4 years (big-time outlier) to like 3.3-3.75M... I'm not expecting anyone to listen to my words, but USE LOGIC!

OK... Zuccarello, in his last RFA year, led our team in points and was our best skater from February on. He is well over .5 PPG in his NHL career, which is only 144 games old. Players like that DO NOT sign 2 or 3-year deals for 3.25M... logic should tell you he won't want 2 years of UFA pay, which a 3-year deal would give him. He'd like 5 or more, but will get 4 because any less isn't enough for him, and 5 years could become a risk for the NYR (now less so, as he's shown 0 chance of slowing down). It will be four years. At least 4M, in whatevr juxtaposition it is; most likely staggering upwards), and as an UFA, now, we'd be looking at $5M+.

Brassard will almost certainly get something similar. Also in his last RFA year, it's safe to say he's arrived as a no. 2C. A good one? No, but not a 2-3 tweener. He's consistently posted .5+ PPG. That's a 2C.

Stralman--Andy MacDonald isn't quite as good and isn't a righty. He got 5M x 6. How in the **** does everyone think Stralman takes 3.75?! 4-4.5 if we're lucky and get a "home-team discount" (which doesn't really exist. Could get Girardi money on the open market... BTW I'm on the re-sign Stralman, trade Staal bus.

Boyle... we all saw that we need size to compete with the West. So if we lose Boyle, who'll likely get around 3.25M (idea of 2M is a joke) elsewhere, I sY TRY FOR Nash + for the ever popular McGinn and O'Reilly (two good Irishmen!) or Nash + for Grigorenko and Foligno. In any case Boyle is an expensive re-sign and it can't happen if your ex pectin to trade Staal + for Spezza/ROR, unless the + is a more moderately priced guy, like Hagelin (not sure if you'd do that), or Klein (not a wise move this off-season),

Then you've got Pouliot (keep him 1-2 yrs @ 1.75 for size/speed/AV doesn't wanna give up on him), D. Moore (stupid not to re-sign him like 2 @ 1.25. Trade Dorsett? Re-sign Carcillo? Keep both? (ridiculous IMO). Then who's 13F? Who replaces Staal????? Moore, with a QO min. of what, like 1.02? OK who's the new 6D? Allen? Maybe. 7th D?

Did some figuring, based on what I see as a consensus, considering that we don't want much turnover, Richards gets bought out:

Kreider (2 yrs @ 2.65)-Stepan (3.075)-Nash (7.8)

Pouliot (2 yrs @ 1.75) - Brassard (4 yrs @ 4)-Zuccarello (4 yrs @ 4)

Hagelin (2.25)-ROR (6 yrs @ 6.5)-St. Louis (5.625)

Boyle (4 yrs @ 3)-Moore (2 yrs @ 1.25)-Fast (.805)

Carcillo (.875)

McDonagh (4.7) - Girardi (5.5)

Moore (2 yrs @ 1.02)-Stralman (4 yrs @ 4 )

Allen (what, like 900K?) - Klein (2.9)

Lundqvist (8.5)
Talbot (.563)

Significantly over 69M, without a 7D, and AV carries 22. so unless I did something wrong here, we've either got to be willing to sacrifice and/or stop under-projecting our #s.

I think we have to choose between Boyle and Stralman, and possibly even let both go. It's sad, but true.

As far as Nash, he's not going to get traded. If he does, I'd be surprised, and depending on the return, happy or angry.

As for Staal - ROR, I don't think this happens, and I don't think it would be wise any longer. We're crazy to think Kreider and Zucc are both going to cost under $4M. The smart move would be to lock them both up as cheap as possible for like 5 years.

If we let Stralman go, we need to re-sign Staal. If we sign Stralman, we need to trade Staal and recoup assets. We cannot keep both players. I think the team would benefit more from value of the assets from Staal + Stralman, but, I think the defense is stronger with Staal-Klein as the 2nd pairing rathe than Moore-Stralman, so I think the Rangers keep Staal and try to lock him up.

Brassard is such an important player to our team, that it sucks, because he is the perfect type of player to use to upgrade the position. A package of Brassard++ could really entice a team. I just don't think Brass can go - him and Zucc have unreal chemistry. You're going to go into the year with two players who combined for $5M now each going to be getting north $4M. We can't re-sign Pouliot and have a $10M line. In my opinion, we're better off letting Pouliot walk, putting Hagelin with those two and trying to give a younger player a chance up front. If it doesn't work out, you make an in season trade. I really like the idea of Hagelin with Brass and Zucc.

I just don't think we can keep the core of this team together much longer, and it just sucks. It makes the loss hurt that much more. I fear we are in for losing some key players in the oncoming years, much to the fans' dismay.
