Finally: Markov-Subban

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when Subban first first came up, the beginning of the season after he was called up for the playoffs, did he not play a few games with Markov before Markov got his tendon slashed by Price? (Or another injury? They kinda fuzz together at this point haha).

Either way, I really hope it sticks. Yeah, it's top heavy, but they might just be the pair that can light a spark at any given time.

Markov-Subban only works on the powerplay or when theres a minute left to the game. You want one of those two on the ice most of the time and it happens half as often if they play on the same pairing. When they play separately you can have one of Markov or Subban on the ice 80% of the time, which is great needless to say. Of course its not-so-great right now because we don't have healthy defensemen to pair them.

With Markov-Subban paired together the health issue would be even worse, since pair 2 and 3 would be 100% scrub facing potentially dangerous 2nd and 3rd lines. Example : Gorges-Weber, not a pair I'd like to see against Malkin

Even strength Markov-Komisarek wasn't all that great. Subban-Gorges is demonstrably superior. But Gorges-Subban have been one of the top pairings in the league since they were put together. While Markov-Komi couldn't do much better than break even on even strength with strong goaltending behind them.

We can chalk it up to short memory. +/- means nothing. Markov-Komisarek was a Top 3 pairing in the NHL at one point. Markov was a Top-10 defenceman and Komisarek was feared across the league. He blocked as many shots as Gorges and hit to kill. Gorges-Subban are not at that level. We can say Subban is at the level that Markov was, but Gorges, especially this season, doesn't have the same impact that Komisarek used to have.

Hey don't wanna sound stupid but who is ljv? Not a single person on the coaching staff or players in our team have those initials and I keep seeing those initials and don't wanna be confused anymore:)

I think it's Le Jeune Vèbère (Weber)

:yo:

Now call up Tinordi and slot him in with Bouillon, and we're set.

Markov-Subban, if that actually comes to pass, will be the best even-strength and power-play combination we've had in, dare I say, decades.

Gorges-Diaz is a more than solid 2nd pair, good balance of offense and defense.

Weber-Bouillon - ideally Tinordi slots in with Bouillon to give us a little more sandpaper, but Weber has played well recently. Guess we'll see on that one. Have the feeling Weber's regular spot in the lineup is temporary until the Hamilton boys get the call.

I think they are just trying some things. I prefer Markov and Subban separate except for PP's.

Tinordi is in Hamilton until Saturday so I doubt he is part of the picture for playoff time.

Komisarek also had to either shoot the puck on the boards out every time he couldn't give it to Markov.
Gorges can skate with the puck and make a decent puck out.

Marky and Komi weren't as reliable defensively as Gorges-PK.
I'm not sure Markov was better defensively than PK is either, and Markov was my favorite player.

Not short memory, lack of a rose coloured one.

There are characteristics of a top 3 pairing, they massively improve their team's Results on the ice. Markov-Komisarek didn't do that. Not even close. They were merely the top pairing of a team that would have been horrific on ES if it weren't forthje top level goaltending they were getting.

Even prior to his shoulder injury Komisarek wasn't very good. He might have been a physical force, but a complete absence of puck skills meant he couldn't push the play forward at all.

When the team was in first, everything about them was glamourized in retrospect. But the fact was that team was weak all over on evens except for huge goaltending advantage they had. Which is how they fell apart so easily in 2009 after Price's poor play coming back from injury. They weren't competitive without top 5 goaltending,

I'm willing to give the Subban - Bouillon combo at least one game. Our D can't get that much worse, who knows they may have good chem. It'll also be our most physical defence pair, could be interesting. In saying that tho our D is awfully small and that Marky - Weber duo is worrisome.

Really shows how Berg pushed the fact how everyone needs to play a role on this team to be successful. We have nobody that can fill Emelin's role other then maybe Tinordi, but thats a lot of pressure on this kid. Anyone familiar how Tinordi played with the Knights in the playoffs, and if his game changed/adapted?

It's sad to see Markov playing that way. He used to be my favorite player.

Time to retire Andrei.

He's #6 for top scoring defenseman in the league. It balances out his -12. He's just not a top 2 defenseman anymore. He should be a top 4 and play with a big shutdown D. It's not his fault he doesn't have the support to be good. Don't forget this is his first full year back from a cery long injury and he played a lot of games overseas during the lockout. He just hasn't adjusted to his age yet but he'll figure out what his limitations are next year. Let's hope for a good year next year so we can ship him at the deadline as a rental.
