Most of us Wings fans are very excited about him and he had to earn that excitement back after his D+1 season.

Zadina is a completely different player than when he first joined the organization. He's not some one-way sniper type winger, he competes all over the ice and has elite skill to go along with it. Where he ends up depends on how far he can take his hockey iq and skating ability.

And stats are not going to tell the story right now for him considering he's being centered by Valteri Filppula and receiving stretch passes from Marc Staal.
It makes me kind of pleased to know that other people are now familiar with the infinite, cold, hostile universe that is the Marc Staal stretch pass.

Random question, sorry to hijack the thread, but I noticed that Filppula had a sort of random 66 point season with the Wings in 2011-2012. Was he playing with Datsyuk or Zetterberg or something that year? Seems like an otherwise 40-45 ish point forward during his prime years

Filppula - Zetterberg - Hudler was the line that year. They were a ton of fun to watch and our best line by far if I remember correctly.

20 points in 41 games playing in the bottom 6 seems pretty good to me? Probably a decent points/60. I admit I haven't watched a lot of Red Wings games...

Last year his most common linemates were Filppula and Helm so I dont know why people are talking shit about him lol. Producing as a rookie with those linemates on a 23 goal ~45 goal pace is pretty solid. This year hes actually been in the top 6 though and looked like Detroits best player arguably before he went out with covid. I cant find his points/60 but I bet it was high on Detroit last year. Once he gets talent around him and hes not playing with the Helms and Filppulas and Neilsens of the world hes gonna be good

Biggest development for him is how good his defensive game and especially his takeaways have gotten. Hes a legit two way threat, not some one way offensive sniper like he was talked about at the draft by some.

Almost three years ago he said he was going to fill the Habs/Sens nets with pucks for passing on him

He has a combined one goal vs the two teams. Everyone taken before him looks better, and even some after.

I wish him a speedy recovery with no lingering effects after his recovery.

Yeah, he was scoring at a 44-point pace last year, that’s pretty impressive for a youngin’.

Where he's at?
He's out with covid right now. The first 4 games of the season he was very easily one of Detroit's top 3 forwards on any given night.

What exactly is the purpose of this thread?
*someone starts thread asking people what they think of Filip Zadina so far*

HF posters: "What exactly is the purpose of this thread?"

He is a 21 year old playing on the worst team in the league, playing with some of the worst line-mates in the league a lot of times, and was on pace for 20 goals last season. He hasn't even had the opportunity to play a full season, with training camp, with the Red Wings. I'm not sure what more you want from him. Nobody was expecting a 40 goal rookie season or anything.

He has plenty of room to improve, and hopefully once the Red Wings get some better players (through prospects showing their mettle in the NHL or newly acquired NHL players) he will be much more productive.

His work ethic and tenacity is already really great to see, and even if he doesn't develop the talent he will still put in the effort night in and night out.

That's correct. Svechnikov was a clear-cut #2 pick in the same way Eichel and Laine were. Those threads were just pure wishful-thinking speculation by fans looking for a narrative where Carolina would pass on Svechnikov.

This thread reminds me how pissed off I was when Zadina got headshotted at the Traverse tournament. Columbus was taking the approach of hitting everything in sight and it climaxed in someone taking a high run at Zadina "because it's his chance to get management's attention". That guy's now a non-contract ECHL'er.

I had Svetchnikov at number 1 up until like March, I've regretted changing my mind since.

I think even without context thats pretty solid, and for a young guy scoring at that rate would show a potential first liner for sure. When you take his linemates and the quality of his team in general into account I think its really solid

He's played Ottawa one time

I'm sure the wings going undefeated against the habs last year and one shootout loss against the Sens with Zadina in the lineupis fine with him. Weird point to make lol

I think he'll be fine. He's still a young player. I'll go as far as to say I think he'll be a Kaprisov type player, not ready to be in the NHL at 20 but when he does put everything together, he'll be an effective 2nd liner who could maybe bump into the top line.
