So now hfboards thinks it's cringe to be interested in non-headline players or what?

hfboards has always (or was always) a place for hockey nerds to do the deep cuts into players that many people ignore.

Now it's all ego-battles and some people are threatened when their is focus on a prospect of theirs who is struggling. So we do the cool, 'being interested in something is cringe' thing.

Zadina was expected to go 3rd overall and slipped to 6th. By definition, that makes him an interesting prospect to follow to see if the 3 intermediary teams were right or wrong.

You're probably 10 years late. HFBoards currently is the best place to discuss hockey prospects and always has been.

For NHL talk Reddit has overtaken HFBoards as the place to talk about pro hockey. The level of knowledge outside of the prospects forum here is pretty low compared to other sports forums.

History of Hockey forum on here is pretty good also.

Where is he? Nowhere near where he said he would be when he was pissed for not going in the top 5.
Zadina has a habit of covering himself in the offensive zone. He doesn't find quiet areas enough and struggles to gain separation. He still flashes the talent so many believed in, but he was always an average athletic set guy and that didn't improve. His hockey IQ and shot could carry the day in junior but they aren't up levels. He works hard in terms of I never he complaints about his effort, off ice stuff, and he has come a long way defensively.

I let out a curse when we drafted him, I had him down my board because I was worried about the athletic ability. But I am stunned he hasn't been better than this at the NHL level. I wasn't his biggest fan but 2nd/3rd line winger with some PP punch seemed a likely outcome. I thought you were getting a 40 to 50 point 20 goal kind of player at least. He has a lot work to do and I don't think you find a ton of people believing in a turnaround. I was surprised Yzerman went 3 years on the term last summer.

Now that's he's in his 20's.. has he said anything else? Say in 2019, 2020, 2021 or 2022?

Zadina is such an odd case. It’s not an issue defensively, it’s not an effort issue, it’s that the guy has zero finishing ability. He will make a nice deke and then fumble the puck, he’ll get an opportunity and then flub the shot, and if neither of those happens the puck is going straight into the goalies chest. The one thing you thought the guy would be good at at the NHL level is just completely missing. If you weren’t paying attention, you’d think he just got some bad breaks and unlucky bounces in a specific game and that his game is coming together. But it’s been two years of almost nice plays and unfinished chances.

False. He’s in your head living rent-free actually. Very kind of you considering the current housing market.
I just remember how pissed he looked when the Habs passed on him and then again until he fell to the Wings and in an interview he went on to say how he would show all the teams that passed on him...well he really hasn't so far. Of the top 6 picks he has the second least amount of NHL games and 2nd least amount of production.

Have you read the stuff posted here?
Both sites are terrible. While on Reddit you can call someone out for being an idiot without having an warning message from a mod.

However on Reddit if you go against the herd (even if you’re right) you will get downvoted to oblivion by idiots there and people just downvote based on fandom 99% of the time

He's got zero confidence and between COVID and injuries hasn't been able to string a complete season together. He needs a fresh start at this point but it's likely he'll end up back in Europe before he's 30.

Idk I guess one confident line from an 18 year old like 6 years ago just doesn’t bother me as much. A lot of people scream for personality yet this is somehow still a subject brought up every other month amongst hockey fans.

sometimes I feel like in 20 years people are gonna be talking about draft busts and be like "remember that time Zadina said he was gonna fill the Habs net with pucks???!!!"

and it's just like......why?

Well that's a pretty hard statement when you're only scoring like 10goals a year

That's why we "scream" for personality. Sometimes straying away from the hockey cliches gives us something fun to talk about. Like a bust who talked big at the draft.
