Filip Zadina cannot shoot (junior shot)
Filip Zadina cannot skate
Filip Zadina cannot play defense
Filip Zadina is a Euro who didn't spend enough time in NA, everyone should know this 'fact' because no Euro's come over and succeed (especially in Detroit.lmao).
Filip Zadina will be in Europe soon and may do okay for himself (he just signed a 3 year contract in the NHL not sure why people think he's going to the Extraliga anytime soon)

Think he has played good defence and has been more of a playmaker. Has been building his game more complete.

But, when he plays better defence, he can't get any offence. And that's a skating problem related always.

So now hfboards thinks it's cringe to be interested in non-headline players or what?

hfboards has always (or was always) a place for hockey nerds to do the deep cuts into players that many people ignore.

Now it's all ego-battles and some people are threatened when their is focus on a prospect of theirs who is struggling. So we do the cool, 'being interested in something is cringe' thing.

Zadina was expected to go 3rd overall and slipped to 6th. By definition, that makes him an interesting prospect to follow to see if the 3 intermediary teams were right or wrong.
It is also more interesting than deep diving through several threads on one single player. In further support of your post, I as a Wings fan, find it interesting to read through other's opinions on the player. The Wings board is a smaller community these days, and as is such, this discussion has been beaten to death there already.

Weird examples since both Filpulla and Hudler ended up tremendous players for where they were drafted.

I think in today's modern scouting were going to see less and less star players coming from the super late rounds.

Who was the last 6th/7th round pick to be a top 20ish player?
Not quite 6th/7th round, but Jamie Benn as a 5th round pick that was top-10 player in the league for a few years.

Joe Pavelski was never top-20, I don't think, but a very good player with a solid respectable career, was a 7th round pick.

Never has a worse player lived so rent free in so many heads. People say they want more personality in hockey and then they rag on a player for 5 years after one confident line.

You must not have heard of Josh Ho-Sang.

I think Pavelski was only like 3 years younger than Zetterberg no? I don’t think I’d really consider him part of the modern scouting of today when he was drafted two decades ago.

Yeah Benn and Stone seem to be two good examples. Definitely a lot less frequent today

I was watching a video about Sidney Crosby before he was drafted and that guy was so humble. Everyone knew he was going to be drafted first overall since he was 15 years old but Sid didn't want to talk about it.

Talking shit just after being drafted is not a good sign.
I agree, not a good look to be cocky right after the draft, and obviously Zadina hasn't backed anything up on the ice, but there was definitely a language barrier going on with him. I think he meant to sound confident with the comment, but it came off as cocky.

I still hope he can figure it out in the NHL. He's a likeable kid, you can tell he's extremely frustrated out there. His body language does not scream confident at all when he's on the ice. Best case scenario for him is he figures it out, and turns himself into a serviceable 2nd liner (kinda like Zacha did). Hopefully it's with Detroit, but it wouldn't shock me if he figures it our with a change of scenery. Also wouldn't shock me if he never pans out in the NHL, and is playing in the Czech league in a few years. It's weird that Yzerman gave him a 3 year deal last offseason. I guess he "bet" on Zadina to find his game, and so far, the bet isn't paying off.

I'm pulling for him though, no sense in kicking a guy when he's down.

What's happening with DRW picks? All of their picks were supposed to be Gods like Zadina and Veleno.. but they haven't shown too much.

Find one post on this site where a Wings fan predicted Veleno would be an all-star. The minority of every fanbase says stupid stuff at times but I doubt anyone at all said this.

Oh there have been.
When? Years before he was drafted when he was highly touted? I'd like to see the post. And regardless your post was out to lunch. Most Wings fans I've seen on this site would be estatic if he ended up up as a middle six center. Nobody is going to be disappointed if he doesn't end up as a "god".

Veleno will be fine. He's been playing really strong for the last 25 games or so. No one expected him to be a first line center, but a solid 3rd line center with maybe a couple seasons of 2C production isn't unreasonable.

There was one over the summer and it seems like a JHS thread every few months from 2018 to 2021.

There were a few red wings fans that were over the moon that Zadina slipped to them back in 2018. It was a bit of a meme on the Habs board to say "Thanks for Zadina" because more than one wing fan had said that.

We ended up drafting a bust of our own at 3 but thats neither here nor there.

There's been games where I'd watch Zadina play before his injury and would always be impressed. He looks like a player who has 'breakout' potential. I don't mean breakout as in a Kirill Kaprizov, but more of a middle six tweener. 2018 was a weak draft and Ken Holland's drafting team at the time was subpar, but still had a few hits in Larkin, Hronek, and Bertuzzi.

GWG in his first game back... Y'all owe that man an apology!lol

Note: just joking around... 8 minutes of ice and first goal of season. It was nice though but he ruined Vladars shot at a Flames record (14 games with a point) so a bit bittersweet.

He'll be back in Europe next year.

no he won't he still has an NHL contract for 2 more years after this year and that $1.8m is way more than he'd make over in Europe

certainly wouldn't rule it out after that though if he doesn't start showing more than he has been

Where is he? Nowhere near where he said he would be when he was pissed for not going in the top 5.
