This is hypothetical since I don't think DET will trade him, but let's say DET drafts Drysdale and they roll with him and Seider as their #1/2 RHD for the future making Hronek expandable.

He has one year left remaining on his ELC so he will be due for a new contract next season. 22 year old, RHD with a near 0.5ppg in his early career so far.

What is his value if DET were to look into trading him? If you are wondering what DET's needs are, easy answer is just about everything except RHD.

Even if Detroit drafts Dysdale, they’re not tossing both him and Seider into the top 4. We would need an established young NHL player back. Can’t trade away a top 3 player on a team devoid of talent for futures. Need a comparably aged top 6 center or top 3 LHD.

Why do people on HF think that when teams draft someone in a certain role, it means immediately that the spot is now loaded and expendable? Even if we draft Drysdale and Seider, and they both become really good, that is 2-5 years away, which means there is no expendables for at least that long. Teams don't trade away players for what is a perceived overload of position, they trade when they actually have too many at a certain spot, or they move players to different positions.

I'm gauging a players value, when did I say that DET is going to trade him or wants to trade him.

So I will try and be fair since I am a little more biased since it is my team and favorite player but I will give you some players I would give him up for which wont ever happen. And whats up with this guys? he says it hypothetical and is gauging value. We act like we are the green or red light for trades to go through instead of just having a discussion.

Anyways, guys he would be on the table for Mcdavid,Mathews,Dahlin, etc. those types of guys. Obviously more would have to be added to even get the convo started without being laughed at but for Detroit he is only a guy you give up to get a young upgrade or a surefire prospect

Well it’s not much of a conversation when I would add the 4th overall to Hronek and still get laughed at for those players you mentioned. I am not against trading Hronek, but it better be a Center in return.

Hronek plus the 4th would net a very good player hypothetically but you are right. My view is that your not getting our best defender without giving up your cream of the crop. He is doing well on an extremely poor team he definitely shouldnt be moved for quantity or guys that might turn into him

If Detroit drafts Drysdale at 4 (which I feel is the right move as I see him as the 4th best player), both Seider and Drysdale will need to show they can be at or above Hronek’s level before moving him that’s going to take a couple years

As a Duck fan, I would jump to trade Rakell for Hronek even if we are desperate for offense. He would give the Ducks a big shot and I love his competitive nature. Unfortunately, there is zero reason to trade him even if they did draft Drysdale and have Seider in the queue. ...

While I'm not as sold on Drysdale as you, I completely agree with the principle. Its a few years too early for Detroit to offload any player, let alone a young RD with a great shot. If Drysdale is the pick and he works out, it is going to take years for us to find out, and by then we will have a better understanding of Hronek's value and then more rigorous speculation will be possible.

---

If Hronek was available right now, a promising young center better be coming back or multiple draft picks (including a 1st). I know it might seem like a lot but if he's played as a #3 or #4 with PP time I think he would be really good for a lot of teams. He's also cost-controlled for the next few years, which is a huge plus.
