TSN: Feature on Kronwall

Nice. Thanks for posting it.

I loved when the fans chanted "you got Kronwalled" at the Joe.

BTW, why do the fans chant Todd Bertuzzi? Why is he so loved by the fans?

Some of those hits make me cringe. I think they are legal and clean. But when I see a guy clearly knocked out, I can't help but wonder what long term damage that's going to cause.

I guess it keeps them on their toes though. And more worried about getting hit than making the right play. That's good.

Good stuff and he is a great interview, and love the part where he talks about some of the big hits he has taken over the years. Will always remember when Koivu dumped him legally and the Wild won the game in overtime he just came in said it hurt and Koivu made a hell of a hockey play. No sour grapes, no the league should look or that was borderline interference, he tipped his cap, it isn't like he plays by a different set of rules than he holds others to, despite what some of our favorite Kronwall detractors I know are about to make an appearance are going to say about him.

That was a great segment! Thanks alot for the video.

Pens fan here loving Kronwall. :yo:

Cool interview, really liked the part where he talked about himself getting hit and saying put himself in that vulnerable situation. Guy has no problem admitting his own mistakes, pure class. Love the guy, was also at the game where they were chanting you got kronwalled. Was ******* sweet!

:handclap: Awesome video. I liked Holland comparing him to Vladdy. Konstantinov was a monster and I think the better hitter, but they both play(ed) a big game.

This is my favorite Kronwall vid of all time though. It's a top 10, but it also shows ~7 minutes of other Kronwall hits

Konstatinov was the better player, but not the better hitter.
Kronwall is one of a kind.

Players who don't keep their head up are a dime a dozen. Who cares about their long term health

Konstantinov was more physical across the board, I think even with Vladdy's big ones don't happen as often or with the same dear God factor of Kronwalls.

Yeah, Vladdy wasn't as big of a hitter, but he did seem to be a much nastier player over all. Makes me think of Chelios, and how he'd take every opportunity to jab or smack someone. I don't know how either Vladdy or Chelly weren't in the penalty box from puck drop to final whistle on some nights.

I don't really want to see anyone get seriously injured while playing hockey. Or doing anything else for that matter.

It really is both art and science. Too bad hits like these are being phased out of NHL because of new rule regarding contact to the head.

Vladdy was WAY more physical than Kronwall, and far more consistently. He was cleaning guys' clocks in all 3 zones; opposing forwards just have to clear the red line with Kronner and they're safe. This current D-corps could REALLY use a guy with Vladdy's hitting ability and mean streak.

Kronwall really only catches guys once every 5-7 games (or so it seems to me, anyway) and basically delivers no meaningful hits apart from his highlight reel shots, so I don't consider him a physical defenseman for the most part. He's like an MLB'er who only averages about 8 HR's a season, but half of those are tape measure shots to the upper deck- ideal for a Sportscenter highlight, but not really a true representation of him as a player.

Yeah I really wish we had a D with a mean streak. Not someone who we have to tell to be physical or use their size. Just someone who instinctively likes to hit and engage physically. Someone who has it in their DNA.

Sometimes when I see these hits coming, not always, but a few times the camera goes wide angle and you see Kronner line up the other guy who has no idea. I know I'm a Wings fan, been one all my life, but I can't stop myself from screaming at the TV: "LOOK UP!!!!!" to try and warn the other guy. His hits are just frightening. His defensive game has holes, and he wont be wining the Norris, but man oh man, if there is one guy you would not want in opposing colors....it's this guy.

I think Kronwall spreads fear, which is a big factor. The opposing players are very careful when he is on the ice. His hits are the most of highlight plays in the league. Fans love it and hate it.

Bertuzzi's a blue collar player and Detroit and the state of Michigan is a blue collar place. Like his hard work and grit that he brings. Over the past year though, he hasn't really been a lot, but mostly due to injury

I just want to say the "you got Kronwalled" chant really worries me and I hope it doesn't become a trend. I was at that game, and it was awesome, but only because the guy didn't actually get hurt. I really hope our fans are smart enough to not do it when a guy is laying out on the ice unconscious, but with any large group of people, you can not expect em to do the smart thing

Thanks for explaining it. I Wonder if it because the fans want a Power forward. We have Franzen is a very light Power forward/Sniper. But he is neither a true PW nor sniper.

You are right. It would be real stupid if they chanted "you got Kronwalled" when someone injured. I really hope it does not happen.

Here they chant Todd Bertuzzi just before Kronwall's hit.

I HIGHLY doubt fans would chant "you got Kronwalled" if someone was laying on the ice, injured. Detroit is a pretty classy place. We don't have any ******** chants like Nashville's "You suck!" or even Chicago's "Detroit sucks!". I don't think we've ever cheered when someone got injured.

Unless it's Crosby. I think Detroit hates Crosby.

Was at the Game where Pronger got hit by the slap shot that stopped his heart. There was an initial cheer to see Pronger went down, then it got very quiet. I would not put it past people to chant you got Kronwalled if he connects with a guy in the Joe injury or not. It is the mob mentality unfortunately, until they realize the injury is serious some people are going to probably do it.

There are several fans that find it classless that we already chant Todd Bertuzzi given his history in the league. Can't please everyone. None of the Kronwall hits have really shelved people for a real long time despite how fired up everyone gets over them, so I could see them chanting while the guy tries to get his bearings. But rest assured if this becomes something they chant every time he does it one of these times we are going to probably be doing it while a guy isn't feeling too good, if it becomes clear something really continues to not be right, they will hopefully get quiet like the Pronger case.
