or is he just a small sample size wonder, whos having a hot streak ? (last 10 games : 4 goals, 8 points)
would like to hear Islanders fans take

USNTDP - NCAA (as an 18, 19 and 20 year old) route, also played in both WJC (2 x) and WJC-18

Did he have a top prospect potential, or did he get opportunities due to his maybe early on pro like physique?
- scored his first NHL goal as an 20 year old, his only one before this season

I wonder, is it a record between goals, 7 years... between 1st and 2nd career goal

Was drafted by the Kings in 2013, #118th overall, never played for the Kings.
Sabres 2016 - 2018 (22 games), Coyotes 2018 - 2022 (15 games)

about 300 games in the AHL; about 150 points

He started the season in the AHL, as he had done many years before
scored 7 goals, 11 points in 18 games for Bridgeport

Now, i havent seen him play in the AHL, but i assume how he played was
the key factor for his call up? the goals and points been a lucky surprise
for the Islanders fans.

He does, has played really well so far this season in the NHL.
Interesting to see how his NHL career develops.

Good luck dude
Great story so far.

He was actually quite the hyped prospect once upon a time.

Just a few months after his draft in which he went in the 4th round in 2013; he was ranked the 65th best prospect by The Hockey News Future Watch for the LA Kings.

A year later he was the 75th ranked prospect by The Hockey News future watch for the Buffalo Sabres.

He played really well at the WJC and had a monster freshman season in the NCAA and his stock sky rocketed.

Nice to see him finally find his place.

He’s a hidden gem. Let’s keep him that way. It’ll make it easier to bring him back instead of Lou finding some reincarnation of Andy Andreoff to fill in when guys get hurt.

The thing that catches my eye re his stats vs. previous NHL stints is that he's attempting 2.3 shots per game with NYI vs. 1.5 for the rest of his career. It's not just that shots are going in, he's also playing differently.

He has been a pleasant surprise for the Islanders. Good size, decent skill, above average skating. As for his scoring I would say he is somewhat streaky(ie his scoring seems to come in bunches, he had a long streak without any points).

I would say if you can sign him for 1.5M or less he would be a good bottom six player to fill out a roster

Easy guy to root for, we were always hoping the best for him. Surprised it's taken him this long to put it together since at least physically he was ready to go early on and at a time when people were overdrafting big bodies...but hard work and prep meets opportunity and glad to see him start to make it happen.

Is he a late bloomer who is finally figuring it out, or a career AHL'er on a hot streak? Hard to say.

I did always think that he would be a NHL'er. Seemed to have all the tools, back in college.

I’d say it’s more so he was finally put into the right situation to succeed. Those call ups real young seem to be tough for guys, mainly due to inexperience at the NHL/AHL level. It’s good to see these guys blooming later in their career.

The kid can play. He is always in the mix and theres always something happening when he is on the ice. A nice find by old man lou. A perfect replacement for clutterbuck.

It sounds wild to say, but the Isles are probably on the outside looking in on the playoffs without him right now. Obviously Sorokin going wild helps but he’s really stabilizing our bottom 6.

I’d say it’s a combo of Fasching, geriatric Zach Parise and Sorokin.

My son is the same age and played against him all the way from squirts to high school. He was a very good youth/high school/NCAA player. As well has a very interesting and uplifting family story. Always rooting for those Minnesota boys.

Hey, if Hudson made it full-time at 27 and Novak made it at 25, maybe your son still has time ;)

Said since his first game with the isles. I love the way he plays. High motor, always engaged, never out of position, and can play up and down the line up. Just an excellent 3rd line winger but can play on the top lines and not miss a beat.

So what's the story? OP just posted a bunch of stats and asked a few questions from people who actually watch hockey. And here I was bracing myself for a fascinating story.

I had the same reaction. I think the "fascinating" story is that he appears to have finally broken out at age 27, which is quite rare.

Solid two way hockey player. He has some speed and can make the occasional big play. Hes built for playoff hockey. Im excited to see what he can do.

look at the link the poster below provided and you'll understand completely.

he is a pure class act and good person despite what he ever accomplishes in hockey.
