RESULTS SO FAR:
  1. Dylan Cozens, C (--): 51/60 votes (85.0%). Runners up: Victor Olofsson and Jack Quinn (4 votes each).
  2. Victor Olofsson, LW (--): 36/69 votes (52.2%). Runner up: Jack Quinn (31 votes).
  3. Jack Quinn, RW (NR): 50/69 votes (72.5%). Runner up: Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (14 votes).
  4. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, G (-1): 45/63 votes (71.4%). Runner up: J.J. Peterka (8 votes).
  5. ???
RULES: Each poll will remain open for 2 days. In the case of a tie within the top 10, I'll create a 24-hour runoff poll to decide the winner. Ties outside of the top 10 will just be left as ties. Each new poll, I will add the most commented "next to add" prospect (or the top 2 for ties outside of the top 10).

ELIGIBILITY:
All players who meet the HF prospect criteria are included. A prospect is eligible for inclusion if--
  • He has not yet completed his age 24 season and has no more than 65 games played (skater) or 45 games played (goalie); or
  • If signed from a European league or the NCAA at age 22 or older, he has played no more than 65 games (skater) or 45 games (goalie) within 3 years of signing, regardless of age.
  • Note: Olofsson's eligibility is based on the 22+ signing rule. Had Covid not cut last season short, he would've graduated out of eligibility, but, as it stands, he's got 5 games of "prospect" status remaining. As much as I agree with many of you that he isn't really a prospect any more, the eligibility criteria sets a bright-line rule that I'm going to stick to.
NEXT TO ADD: Comment the player you want to see added to the next poll. The following prospects are eligible:
  • Forwards: Lukas Rousek, Matteo Constantini, Linus Weissbach, Brandon Biro, Filip Cederqvist, Brett Murray, Aaron Huglen, Jakub Konecny, Vasili Glotov, Marcus Davidsson, Dawson DiPietro, Andrew Oglevie
  • Defensemen: Miska Kukkonen, Linus Cronholm, Albert Lyckasen, Casey Fitzgerald, Philip Nyberg, William Worge Krue
  • Goalies: Erik Portillo

First tough choice for me. Went Peterka based on highest ceiling but R2 or Pilut are valid choices too. Add Portillo

JJP is the last of the "no-brainer" rankings picks for me.

It's pretty clearly Cozens at 1, Quinn at 2, UPL at 3 and JJP at 4 for me.

Beyond that? Yozwa. Lots of similarities and meh-ness.

my instinct is to vote for JJP. But I think I felt similar about asplund, samuelsson, and Johnson following their drafts. So I *think* they are the same tier for me.

But I gotcha. And totally agree on that top 3 being set in stone

Why is everyone so high on JJ? Because of his WJC appearance right?

Don't emphasize that too much. I saw him in his last game, his team lost 4 - 1 and he didn't show a lot of things, i remember one good rush through the middle.
He has to prove himself first in a league that isn't as good as Liiga or DEL. He's a long shot imo.
Now don't get me wrong, i think he has a good skillset, and his mind seems to be in the right place, good work ethic etc.
I think i'm as much a fan of him than most of you, but i try to be reasonable in my judgement.

For now, let's just give him the benefit of the doubt. It was his first game after a long break. The whole team played rather poorly and their performance was not representative of what they are capable of. They should improve over the course of the next games, as should JJ.

btw: here's the schedule for them, pretty busy going forward

That's fair. I don't have him in a tier apart from a bunch of other guys on the board at this point either. We're firmly in territory where there's reason to doubt all of these players. Some will pan out, some won't, and guessing which category each falls into is hard. I'm partial to guys who like making themselves a PITA to play against and also have some skill upside, though, which is why I went JJP here (and why I'll probably start voting for Pekar sooner than most).

Is 5th in the prospect ranking "so high on him"?

He was taken in the second, but ranked in the first by many. His competition in this poll is R2, who most people like, he's just small and hasn't really flashed until this year, which has been a large product of special teams. Johnson, who was taken in the first, but far from a consensus pick and seems to be ok, but lacks some upside.

Beyond that, its a bunch of guys picked at similar spots or later than Peterka was who haven't really shown much since they were drafted. Borgen and Asplund were really hyped, but haven't shown for it yet, Samuelsson seems to have potential but also hasn't wowed many people. The rest are later picks that haven't completely broken out. Guys like Laaksonen and Pekar showing potential, but not the most substantial amount.

Agree with all but Borgen has been good and grown into a role. After 2 solid years in the A, I think he'll at least get a look when inevitable injuries happen. He's not a points guy but HF will love him

I haven't seen a ton of Borgen, so its more that for a few years now some people have been suggesting he's ready to jump into the NHL and he hasn't made that jump. So he could still be a quality player, but to me it seems the hype train has slowed a little. I think there was much more talk about him a few years ago, and maybe a higher outlook of his potential

Kind of hard to make the jump when he had 5 players on 1 way contracts ahead of him. Even this season they would need to move out Montour and Miller for him to take that 3d pairing slot

Oh definitely, but at least from my perspective it wasn't a pilut situation where the fanbase was beating the drum for him to start in the NHL over guys that weren't contributing. I can see why they wouldnt have him up, I would just think there'd be more noise if he was truly ready for it. And not that I want to judge him on fan reaction, but thats just the perception I get from the fan reaction or lack thereof

He's ready, definitely marinated enough in Rochester but let's be honest at his best he's a gritty, defensively sound bottom pairing that skates well enough to cover for an offensive partner. He's a potential fan favorite for being a fist magnet, but in essence a smaller, better skating RH version of Samuelsson.

No worries @muhmuhMatt
You are sort of right too, maybe he has to go back to Munich in a few weeks, who knows
Unfortunately, another 0 - 1 loss in overtime for the Red Bulls yesterday
